Hello, my diy pc which I've assembled 5 years ago seems to be dying soon... The screen will black out suddenly for no reason and sometimes it is reading slowly from the hdd... My guess is that the mobo is gone.

I'm thinking of upgrading the system, reusing my Grayson G480 PSU and my tower chasis, ssd drive and hdd.

Can the following config work with the existing parts?

- Intel Pentium G2120 & Asrock B75 PRO3 M
- G.Skill DDR3-1333MHz 4GB
- Sapphire HD 5670 512MB

You screen black out maybe caused by your HD 5670.

Check HDD SMART status for any signs of failure since you said it is very slow.

Thanks for the suggestion too... I swapped hdd liao... using an older hdd... same problem... :(... and when booting up... the bios screen also easily take nore than 5 sec... any chance it is due to psu?

Sorry... the new graphic card is what I intend to get based on the recommendation on page 1 of this forum

My old mobo is a cheapo mobo with onboard graphic card

no point getting the older ivy bridge G2120 and B75 motherboards now, when you can get the newer haswell G3240 and H81 motherboards at this kind of price range

no need to buy graphics card, the intel hd graphics will work fine

though the G3240 supports only up to 1333, rams can just buy DDR1600 instead of DDR1333 since the price is about the same
it will run at 1333 just fine
:(

No point buying all these parts when we don't even know which part is at fault right now. What if he still face same problem after buying?

Have you done any memtest on your RAM?

Thanks @zzzzzzzz for the suggestion.

Yes, @MoneyFace =p.... I have done the memtests and the S.M.A.R.T did not show any errors for the IDE/SATA devices

Thanks guys and sorry for the confusion... I've not bought G2120 yet... hehe.. if I've bought it, I wouldn't be asking for recommendation here... that mem test was for my existing old sys that is on K8... I thought the earlier question was how I isolate the fault to be mobo...

Ah my bad... :o

Consider these:

CPU+MB: Intel Pentium G3258 [Anniversary Edition] + ASRock H81M-HDS R2.0 @ $154
RAM: Crucial DDR3-1600 CL11 4GB @ $35
SSD: Transcend SSD370S 256GB @ $98* (Lazada Singapore)
PSU: FSP300-50HMN OEM 300W @ $39

Total: $326

Buy others from Tradepac, #05-18.

*Price after Lazada MCUNLOCKED 18% MasterCard discount coupon (Capped at $50)

Please check that your HDD and ODD runs on SATA interface.

Thanks for the recommendations. Will check it out... Just wondering my old Grayson PSU should still be usable right? Supposedly to be able to supply peak power of 480W
Definitely not possible, PSU capacitors starts depreciating the day you start using and upper load limit also goes down gradually. Your G480 isn't really made of great quality component, just so-so nia, and by now should be rather cui already (even if it hasn't cause any issue till now, you may not know sooner later). As advised countless times to PC buyers, protect your expensive new parts by investing in a brand new good quality PSU. This is especially so if your current one has long gone past the warranty period or using average-bad quality components. Electrical hazard isn't something you should take lightly of.
