Needing to build a new desktop for gaming purposes. Any suggestions is appreciated.

No need monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Games I'm looking at:
dawn of war retribution
xcom enemy within
team fortress 2
Battlefield 4
civilization 5

PS: The smaller it is, the better (SFF).

Eh bro, must gimme your number la.. LoL! I've always looked towards your recommendation for builds coz it makes sense..

Would the GPU you recommend be enough for the games?

Edit: Ignore the stupid question about the GPU.. LoL! Of course you already had taken that into consideration! :p

Ok, they pulled their stupid tricks on me:

1) delay tactic when I refuse their alternatives; upselling (I just walked away)

2) they got another guy to attend to me when I returned and the guy said "no more" to all the components except for the i5-4460+mobo you recommend

In the end, wasted trip.. But happy pocket. LoL!

Guess I should have tried there instead. Oh well.. I guess I'll go down to try this weekend. If not, I'll head down to PC Themes instead.

Also, I might consider to buy parts from either that has better price.

Since I still have time, can't decide between CM Elite 110 or Jonsbo C2 as recommended by bro MoneyFace here. :p

Went there last week leh.

They really got stock taking and resupplying of all the fast going out items.

Dont know whats wrong, I asked Rahman the other day, he say they doing some stock take and also reshuffling all the parts and throwing back to distro for things that stuck in their store like for god knows how long and cant be sold.

Just to report.. In the end, my friend didn't mind upping the budget (to about $1.4k)..

Got everything as advised except:
Mobo: giga h97n WiFi
Casing: CM Elite 110
SSD: Samsung Evo 850 250gb
PSU: CM 500CXM*

*Here's the problem, seems like I have to buy an extra 6 pin connecting cable.

The PSU has x3 6-pin connector labelled as, "SATA", "Peripheral", "PCI-E", and an 8-pin connector as "4+4".

Does it really matter? I've used the "SATA" and "Peripheral" for the SSD and HDD, leaving the "PCI-E" and "4+4" for the GPU.

Can I just use the remaining "PCI-E" 6-pin connector together with the "4+4" for the GPU (buy 6-pin adapter)?

Doesnt work that way. Btw why choose cx600? Go for reputable brands.

Fsp aurum S
Superflower HX
Superflower Leadex gold
Superflower Leadex Platinum
Corsair HX series
Corsair AX series
Seasonic g series
Seasonic s series
Seasonic X series
seasonic P series

No you dont need extra connectors.

6+6pin is meant for gpu. It should come with minimum 1 pair.
Sata is sata. Its for connecting to hdd ssd and dvd drive if any. Theres more than enough to use.
And 4+4pin is for cpu.

Well... That "guy" at TP recommend lor.. I don't really know much about PSU. LoL! Kena chop I guess..

Nevertheless, I'm not sure what you mean but the cable mentioned is basically a 4+4 at one end, and splits into 2 6+2 PCI-E at the other end.

The GTX 970 requires 2 6+2 PCI-E..

Corrections not 6+6. Its 6+2.

Basically 6+2 is meant for GPU power. The other end 4 pin is basically to PSU.
