Hi I’m looking to do an upgrade to my current rig. It’s a few years old rig, still working perfectly but hand itchy, want to try out the latest tech.

I mainly do web browsing, Netflix, and photoshop editing. The only game I currently play is Football Manager. I can recycle any parts of my current or just keep it as a back up machine.

My current rig specs as follows

Processor : Intel i5 6600K
MB :Asus Maximus VIII Hero
Ram : G.Skill 8GBx2
GPU : Asus GTX 980Ti Strix
HDD : Samsung 960 PRO 512GB
Cooler : Corsair H100i
PSU : Corsair RM850X
Case : Corsair Carbide Air 540
Monitor : LG Widescreen 34 inch

Pls advice me what to upgrade so that I could see a significant improve over my current rig.

Budget would be around $2K+/-

Thanks!

You can get a 2600x with a MSI Gaming Pro Carbon MB. If Zen 2 comes out and u hand itchy again, the new CPU is a drop in in the the AM4 board. Other than that nothing much to change on your rig, practicality wise, since you play FM only your GPU also overkill already.

Thanks for the advice.

I guess I just upgrade my cpu and mb. Plus a new set of ram.

Any advice for a new case? The Corsair 540 is really huge and takes up a lot of space. Will the node 202 fit my strix gpu?

Strix which version, go do own research on the dimensions and allowance. If use more the 2 slots no way can fit into the case

Seems like single core performance is still a key factor for FM and higher clockspeeds appear to have more benefits than more cores and Intel more than AMD.

Ryzen 2600 4.2Ghz 6C/12T vs i5-8600K 5Ghz 6c/6t vs i7-8086K 4Ghz 6c/12t.
