Hi all,

First time trying DIY. I'm not very sure if theres a difference with the various brands so please give me your advice :)

My main purpose is Photo Processing and gaming.

I'm trying to keep everything within 2000. I need the system as well as a monitor. Help is much appreciated!!

Intel® Core™ i7-4771 Processor
ASUS Sabertooth
16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ( Any brands to advice?)
1TB 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (WD blue 1tb?)
Samsung SSD 840 Pro 256GB
Gigabyte R9 290 4GB or Gigabyte R9 280x (which is more suitable?)
Seasonic g650 650w 80+ gold (Do i need more power?)
Microsoft Windows 8.1
27" monitor (havent decided which brand...)

Any idea if my Frankenstein is workable and any advice on where to make changes? And is it within $2000?

What type of games do you play?

RAM can go for G.Skill/Corsair and WD 1TB Blue for HDD.

oh my bad.. didnt read properly. haha i think u need to lower down on ur gpu abit more then. get invidia gpu for more stable driver. get better screen better. 2713hm perhaps? gpu maybe gtx 770 4gb? :D

unless ur screen u willingly to go for 2nd hand or the korean brand one. lol then yet u can save alot.

i think photo editing wont be so hardcore. unless u really have alot of layers. lol

2k. Photo editing rig and possible use of hyperthreading

Msi b85m g43 + i7-4770 ~ $475
Crucial 8gb 1600mhz x2 ~ $178

Crucial m500 240gb ~ $155 (amazon, no need to go till samsung pro, you cant feel the difference)
Msi r9 280x 3gb twin frozr gaming ~ $469 (not necessary to get from them can try other stores)
Seasonic g650 650w 80+ gold semi modular psu ~ $135 (this psu can try getting from them or pc themes as tradepac psu availability is as good as they want buyers to power thier cpu by hamster)
Corsair obsidian 350D matx chassis ~ $139
Samsung ODD ~ $21
Windows 8.1 oem ~ $120 (with new os if there is a need to upgrade to more than 16gb rams in future)

Thanks all for the feedback!

I am more or less taking your suggestions guys.

Just a few question cause im damn noob:

1) Is there value in getting at 1833mhz rams?

2) If i would like to splurge more on a wider monitor, will there be any issues with my system? For instance maybe in 6 months i upgrade to a larger monitor? ( or sld i just invest it from the start?)

3) Is it better to go down to tradepac and tell them the bundle (and pray for discount)? Or go around hunting for the seperate components within SLS? Or go amazon and purchase online?

Thanks guys appreciate all your help!

Especially zetken, royfrosty, Jian19!!

The difference of $4-6 for a 1866mhz. Thats purely up to you to decide. But nowadays intel do not really benefit much from fast rams. Not really a crucial point.

For monitor. Do take note of the stretching of 1080p from 23inch to a 27inch. It will look ugly on a 27inch screen. The pixels are not well dense and viewing it at a close distance may look not good.

I would say a 23-24inch is good for 1080p. 27inch it is good for a 1440p or 1600p resolution. More crips in the images.

Lastly as for buying components. It is best if you can buy from the shop and ask for a good discount. As for SSD anything above 240gb it is best to buy from amazon.

Guys my friends keep telling me to get the 770 instead of the 280x. However, what are your opinion on it? If let's say I am willing to invest slightly more, with my current set up sld I try the Msi 290?

Its entirely up to you to decide. Each have its pros and cons. Have been using either one and either one have it fair shares of driver issues. If you are willing to fork out till that amount for a gtx770, you could easily land yourself a r9 290.

So if I'm willing to fork out, I reckon 290 will be a better choice? How will it run in my system?

Hmm dilemma here haha

I was quoted the below without SSD for $2500
(ordered from amazon thanks guys!)

They say that the below setup can support 27 inch monitor which i wanted from the start. Will it support 1440p or 1600p?

What is your take on this build? If lets say total setup without SSD the max i am gonna spend is 2.5k, is there other lets say alternative setups?

Thanks for all your advises guys!

Appreciate much!

So you reckon that if I wanna go 27 inch, which monitor would be best?

And if I'm already willing to stretch till 2.5k, is the above system balanced?

Thanks all for your feedback, going down SLS soon again :D
