Well, if you read the article, the accident appears to have occurred near the Malaysia side of the 2nd Link immigration area.

The stretch of highway immediately before and after the immigration area is a clear space which has no center guard rail to divide both highways, which allows vehicles to u-turn for whatever reasons.

Given that the rider smashed into a car on his own side of the road, it is likely that the u-turning car had not yet crossed the immigration area and wanted to turn back towards SG for whatever reason.

The rider was on a R7, a fast motorcycle with a top speed of more than 200kmh.

Those who know this immigration checkpoint will remember that many cars and bikes approach the checkpoint at stupid speeds and brake hard all the way until they reach the checkpoint, leaving no room for unforseen events like people making u-turns.

Was it likely that the rider was riding defensively and approaching the immigration checkpoint at a safe speed, or was it more likely that he was speeding as he rode towards the checkpoint and left no room for error and paid for his stupidity with his life?

Motorcycling... No matter how good you are, your chances of injury are almost 99%.

(JOHOR BARU, 8th) A Singaporean man was riding a motorcycle from Singapore to enter Malaysia late at night. He lost control and crashed into a car that was turning on the highway in front of the checkpoint. The motorcycle then caught fire and burned about 90%. The motorcyclist died on the spot.

The Fire Department received a report at about 12:01 am today. The accident occurred at the 16th kilometer of the Second Link from Singapore to Johor Bahru, near the Sultan Abu Bakar Building in Gelang Patah.

The Singaporean man riding a motorcycle died on the spot after colliding with the car.

The Iskandar Puteri Fire Department dispatched 7 firefighters to the scene at about 12:12 am. They found that a Yamaha R7 motorcycle collided with a Proton Saga BLM car and caught fire. The motorcyclist was seriously injured and was confirmed to have died on the spot.

Iskandar Fire and Rescue Department's Sulaiman confirmed to China Press that the deceased was a 31-year-old Singaporean man named Zen Tay Zhi Yeng.

He pointed out that according to the investigation, the Proton Saga BLM car made a U-turn on the highway, and the motorcyclist lost control and crashed into it, and died on the spot. The motorcycle caught fire and was burned to about 90%.

After the motorcycle caught fire on the Second Link between Malaysia and Singapore, it was burned by the fire to about 90%.

He said that the passport of the deceased was not found at the scene of the incident, and the body of the deceased has been handed over to the police for further processing.

He pointed out that the two men in the Proton Saga BLM car, the 33-year-old male driver Mohammad Fairuz and the 40-year-old male passenger Ahmad Feidousrani, were not seriously injured.

Correct.

Even if the Proton driver is wrong, why let someone's mistake kill you? Why cannot approach the checkpoint at a safe speed such that when these things happen, it won't result in a crash that produces a fireball?

tiagong only but I was studying emergency nursing and someone shared the gap is not random but actually the border area between Singapore and Malaysia (very specifically there is a line in the middle).

The gap is there cos if there is an accident on the causeway or 2nd link, let’s say it’s on the Malaysian side towards Singapore, the ambulance can travel there, then bring the patient back to Malaysia by u turning there. Same for Singapore side.

Cos Malaysian ambulance or fire service cannot cross over to Singapore and u turn at the checkpoint. Same as scdf.

But it’s not really that common for accidents to happen on the bridge itself but when it does, which part of the bridge you are on determines if it’s Malaysian fire service or scdf who responds and then they need to u turn to return to home country without crossing the border.
