Are CPUs starting to die now that our upgrade cycles are getting longer?

My Skylake also limping. Although not sure CPU or Mobo.

You see how long now - Sandy Bridge is the codename for the microarchitecture used in the "second generation" of the Intel Core processors (Core i7, i5, i3) - the Sandy Bridge microarchitecture is the successor to Nehalem microarchitecture.

The i5 2500 I sold off was working perfectly. Jus the mobo ram slots cmi after so many years.

Reminded me of my good old i5 2500k overclocked to 4.6ghz. Lasted from 2011 to 2018. Was using Asrock Z77 Pro 3 mobo.

Very solid and legendary CPU. But eventually upgraded to my current i5 8600k at 5ghz, due to starting to bottleneck my GTX 1070. If I didn't game I would stayed with it for at least another 1-2 years.

It was my most memorable and longest lasting CPU. The predecessor was a E6750 Core 2 Duo overclocked to 3.2ghz which lasted 5 years.

Haha yah man longest lasting CPU. Really shows how forward looking the Sandy Bridge architecture was for its time. But also Intel became complacent so they didn't bother to improve the architecture in their CPU for the next 7 to 8 years until AMD launched their Ryzen CPU.

Even then, their current CPUs are not really moving forward in their architecture. They are just rebranding and renaming the same or similar architecture and just adding more cores, and adding fanciful names(Comet lake, Ice-Lake, Cannon-Lake, Tiger-Lake etc etc) until I also blur. I don know what is their direction at all. Hopefully they can pull up their socks and start real work in improving their CPU architecture rather than just adding more cores.
