RIP WHXM5

A bad habit to use a single hand to dislodge the earphones instead of both hands

That equals to 60¢ a day , $18/mth
Any idea is it worth to send it to Sony for servicing?

Otherwise,
Might as well just wait for another couple of months for the successor XM6?
Get Apple air max?
Or you have any recommendation for cans?

How much Sony quote for the repair?
Actually this is a well known issue, quite alot of people on reddit kenna this as well.
I have the XM5 and really the hinges are much fragile comparing to my momentum 4.

The sony ult wear is also the same fragile built quality.

If ANC and local warranty/servicing are a must, then there are only a few choices. Besides Sony and Apple, can consider Bose Quietcomfort. Bose's side strip is a little broader than Sony's and is attached via a swivel to the cup , so the greater surface area and flexibility could help spread the pressure more evenly when taking off even with just one hand. The WHXMs have a narrower side strip and is bolted to the cup rather rigidly, making it more prone to accidents like this.

The Bose also comes with foldable cups. While it is commonly seen as a benefit, it can also be a potential weak point since it will wear out over time like any other moving part, unless you opt to just leave it unfolded permanently.

sure but it was updated in 2024 from lightning to usb-c. i tried it before this year and felt it was the best headphone money can buy
They only update the port nia, everything else is outdated liao. Imo prefer bose or even sennheiser if no need strong anc.

For the price of airpods and the tech it has, really not worth imo

wrong. i loved it because the chassis is made of metal. it probably will last a long time. i don't like plastic headphones

Moi talk the tech leh not the chassis. How long will the chassis last doesn't matter when a software update can brick / gimp it or the battery kaput.

This kind of wireless headphone need to consider their tech and not just chassis.

Take care also can easily kaput as it's tech dependent.
