Job hunting as in what? Related to your course of study?
Because I've friends who end up as real estate agents, financial planners, credit card promoters, settlement officers. All of which do not require a degree in finance at all. You need to be more specific.
My own experience is a little skewed. I have had more than 4 years experience as a presentation consultant in investment banking. After graduation, I managed to land a job in a private equity fund, doing a similar job with a pay raise. I believe I was hired based on my experience rather than degree.
I found out there were other people who graduated from the same course as I did, in the same firm from other departments. All of them were hired less than 2 months upon graduation. All of them were hired as non-professionals as the firm do not recognize our degree but they acknowledge that we are better than diploma holders so the pay grade reflects that.
The reason why I can't be used as a yardstick is because I refused to take a paycut to start my career from bottom. I did land interviews in various financial firms (non-banking). All of them cite my lack of relevant experience hence they were unwilling to match my pay. The only banking job I could have possibly land was with my previous employer, and I didn't want that as I absolutely refused to work the same crazy hours again.
Before you apply for any course, pls note that any distant learning course is not recognised by government ministries, statutory boards or subsidiaries. You can be hired, but not based on your degree (unless your results are outstanding, meaning top 10% of your cohort). Most likely, you will end up between diploma and degree holder.
And if you think getting outstanding results translate to a better paying job, that's not the norm. I have a friend who graduated from this course with merit (top 10%) and SMRT offered him 2.4k as his basic.
