TS stashaway highest risk is 36%, you're on 30. So it might not be a fair comparison..

Sent from Samsung SM-G950F using GAGT

Stashaway risk index is calculated based on 99% value at risk (VAR) meaning that for portfolio 30, there is 99% chance the portfolio will not lose more than 30% at any given time

Whereas syfe portfolio is based on a 97.5% VAR where it will not lose more than 25% in value 97.5% of the time (or another way of saying 39 of 40yrs will not lose more than 25%)

In order to equalise the 2 different formulas, we need to standardise the measure

99% Var = 2.326 SD
97.5% Var= 1.960 SD

Therefore to convert 25% risk syfe portfolio into 99% VAR,

25%/1.96 * 2.326 = 29.66%

Which is why stashaway portfolio 30 is a more suitable competitor to syfe portfolio 25.

Lose 36% or 25%, I feel this is just a gauge. If we are there for long term, why not just go for the best return(assuming young investor and time's on our side). So if you're going in for long term investment(5-10 years), doesn't matter the risk cus it's just paper loss as stock price will always go up after a economy correction.

don't think anyone mentioned this but new users intending to put at least $500SGD into Stashaway can use Shopback for $30 cashback. need to hold for at least 40 days before you can redeem. not sure if you can use referral code (for 6 mths fee free) or not during the 40 days or not though. however you can still key in your referral code after the initial 40 days
