Romance train, worth it or not?

Thinking to get Hakone 3 days free pass + top up for Romance train.
not sure if it is worth it...

i am travelling with 2 elderly and 1 2yo child..
Should i upgrade to Romance train?

You should especially for the morning journey to the place..Reserved seats..

If coming back late, can consider it also.

i also think you should cos of the elderly.
i did not go for the romance car, regretted a little cos have to spend longer time travelling to and fro hakone.

but regretted just a little

about purchasing the tickets of romance train, does anybody recommends that i purchase the tickets online? or should i purchase it off the vending machine when i reach the odakyu station at Shinjuku?

There is a chance that i might arrive after the ticket counter closed, but i can still purchase the tickets from the vending machines. (on chinese new year day).

Will there be shortage of romance train tickets, for the early trains next day?

I think some considerations personally.
I don't think it's peak period, shouldn't have problems getting it for next day.

1)If you want panorama view, then book early
2)If you are flexible and worry about raining weather and can shuffle schedule for a few days, then get on the spot and decide which day is best.

Do note that the Hakone Free Pass needs to be purchased or redeemed at the ticket counter. Looking at your case, you would likely have to buy the tickets when you are buying/redeeming your Hakone Free Pass.

The Romance Car topups can be purchased online, at ticket counter or the vending machines. I do not think getting them would be a major issue since Feb is not really a peak travelling period.
