NSP did lost their deposit in Marine Parade GRC (4 men GRC) before back in 1992 By Election. That BE is also the one that introduce Teo Chee Hean.

So what is SMC to lose deposit? Afterall, Steve joined politics around that time and should have well aware what happened to them when they do multi-corner fight.

Back then is also when Desmond Lim from JPS just joined the politics. His party die die still want to contest in the BE because they have contested in 1991 GE in a straight fight.


But the worse problem is the old SDP with Chiam. Had he not so eager to show Chee, I think it will be in a better position to avoid multi-corner fight (SDP & NSP has no business in this GRC similar to how RP has no business in Punggol East SMC during the 2011 GE but still want to come contest in BE), with the exception of WP (Becoz GCT want to quell critics about PAP is denying JBJ a chance to contest ever again) and JPS in a 3 corner fight.


So i would say, quite considerable amount of opposition disunity is in fact, caused by none other than Chiam. He is also a distant relative to LKY - go read his book / wikipedia for enlightment.
