I did my first route march in FBO yesterday (6 click) and I found it almost unbearable after 2 click or so. I don't know why but I find this sharp aching pain near the right side of my upper back when I carry FBO. I have already tightened my field pack such that it there's little gap between my ILBV and my field pack and I've already tried to balance it as much as I can.

I am about 180/80kg so I don't think my weight is an issue? Any tips on helping ease the pain on route marches? I don't wanna down pes at this point of time.

2nd time do 3 clicks not in FBO ??
or the first 2 route marches (3 clicks) in clean fatigue meaning donning just LBV,rifle and helmet ?

Huh what you mean?

So far in my 2.5 wks confinement I did two RMs already. The first was before the weapon presentation, 4km in vest slacks and LBV. This time was FBO except that we wore vest slacks and we took a break at the 3 click mark.

Route marches is tough for most people and when doing 3-4km, it already seems like its impossible yet theres 24km in the end. However, with progressive training, your strength will be built up and very soon you will not feel the weight that much.

1 thing good about PTP i guess is more route marches to build up the beginning foundation strength cos direct BMT increase each route march distancevery quickly.

Anyway after field camp, most will feel route marches alot easier cos the field camp field pack is much heavier and the 'reduced' load for the usual route marches suddenly feels more relaxed.

i think 12 km fast march during GCC(with FBO) is more shag out than 24km route march...

imagine chionging 12km at 1 go under a certain timing.. without any rest in between....

that's one of my most peng san experience in NS...

If I recalled correctly (I did mine 20 years ago)
- GCC is 12km forced march in less than 2 hours.

My recommendation is to always be at the front and don't sing. Get a mint sweet or something and put in ur mouth.

one side pain might be due to the fact that the weight of your fbo is not balanced on both sides. it might also be due to your posture.

weight pressing on chest might be due to your fbo being too tight. singing is to take your mind off the pain and "shack-ness". the army songs have a certain fixed tempo to it which helps you to regulate your breathing and paces.

the key to surviving a route march is to just walk and keep your mind distracted from all those discomforts.

I fall out in the first 2km vest slack route march due to chest pain. Next most shag route march was before sit test under the hot sun ! tot I was going to die liao, but didnt fall out. Lastly BMT 24km was a breeze ~ Just need to get used to it.

i hate singing too, for me i like to talk to distract myself. I march with someone who likes to talk. You just have to find a way to distract yrself from the march and the pain.
