Router & AP

So currently my singtel AC Plus router & asus ac88u (Ap mode) are both in living room. No issues with wired performance as i have data points in all rooms. But the wifi is iffy in my room which is furthest from living room.

Was thinking of shifting the ac88u to the middle room & hopefully the wifi is better in my room since its nearer.

Now if i understand correctly, as the ac88u is in AP mode, its giving off its own wifi signals but the AC Plus is also giving off signals right? I believe its not that once i set ac88u as AP then AC Plus stops transmitting wifi signals.

My AC Plus is using one set of SSID eg singtel & singtel5g and its own password. AC88u another set eg asus & asus 5g and its own password. Assuming all my assumptions are correct so far, if i set both AC Plus & AC88u to use same set of SSID eg derrick & derrick5g and the same password, then that means whether im in living room or my bedroom, i should have the widest wifi coverage?

Basically i just want as wide wifi coverage as possible by using AC Plus as main router & ac88u as AP & my question about whether both need the same set of SSID is cos i want it to be seamless rather than in living room must connect to SSID name singtel & in bedroom must connect to SDID asus. Im assuming if set both sets of SSID to derrick then it’ll be seamless? TIA!

If both your Asus and AC plus supports band steering (automatically moving your device to 2.4g or 5g WiFi) then just set 1 SSID name. I.e derrick So you will see only 1 SSID name for your house.

Unless you have very old client device (old phones or tablets) your device should roam from the AC plus and Asus seamlessly

I had previously used a Asus n56u and unifi AC pro AP. Both set to 1 SSID and my phone can roam from one AP to the other while also automatically moving from 2.4g to 5g vice versa.

Without knowing the size and layout of you house I can not guess if the Asus can provide enough coverage. No harm moving the Asus to see if it solves your issue.

I think the AC plus is also an AP as Singtel usually use an ONR as the routers. If that is the case I suggest you use the ac88u switch ports for your house Lan and the ac plus to cover the part of your house where WiFi is iffy.

Check both WiFi not using same channels 2 avoid interfering each other
Both are set to auto. I guess there is going to be chances of inteference then? U would recommend selecting a channel manually?

Any idea which app for ios or mac is good for seeing which channels are less crowded?

Personally I prefer manual.. check 4 least crowded channels 4 ur WiFi tats not overlapping 4 ur 2 APs. U might haf 2 reduce channel width 2 achieved this.
