RTX 2080ti Questions

Hi there!

I have a few very important questions.

Anyone air-cools their RTX 2080ti?

I recently purchased my Aftershock custom build PC and I opt for the RTX 2080ti AMP Extreme overclocked series. But because I didn't opt for the open-cooling system, it is very likely that my GPU will be air-cooled with its default fans instead.

Are the fans adequate enough to cool the GPU efficiently? I've been hearing people saying that air-cooling may not be enough and its core temperature can hit as high as 75-80 degrees (especially with SG's already warm climate).

And do any of you DIY change the GPU's cooling system to NZXT Kraken or Alphacool?

I'm thinking of buying the Alphacool cooler system and DIY it to my GPU. But just scared I will screw up during the installation.

75-80 for the GPU is normal. I use the MSI 2080Ti and it's fine.

The Zotac is also overclocked so of course will run hotter. You can just down lock your card a little and undervolt by .05-.1 and it will run much much cooler.

Run a custom fan curve if you have no issue with fan noise. The MSI ones are really quiet even at 100%.

Shouldnt have gone with Zotac if u want to watercool it. Just use it and if it breaks down, u have 5 years of warranty to cover it. Zotac's cooling in inefficient for our climate. What u can do is to ask Aftershock to do custom open loop so they can cover the warranty.

80 degrees is fine if u dont mind the throttling. I try to keep mine below 77C

Should the Zotac's default fan be unable to cool the GPU efficiency or if it is too noisy, I will DIY it to implement the NZXT cooling system over.

Will update here or create a new thread to post my 'adventure'. Kinda nervous a bit because I'm gonna 'operate' on a $1K+ GPU card. If I screw up, GG. LOL

X72 is kinda overkill for a GPU.

So I've decided to allocate the bottom fan part for the GPU's x72

I've cancelled the order for G12 and X72.

I was googling and youtubing for video tutorials on installing the AIO cooling system over the graphics card and there were concerns about the cooling system flaw. And that flaw is it doesn't cool the card's VRAM. That would result in throttling, if not, will cause the VRAM to spoil sooner or later.

The best alternative is the EVGA Hybrid cooler but the particular model that can fit into my GPU is out of stock.

So... yeah... I will follow elmariachi and Rashkae's suggestion for now - undervolting and custom fan curve.

This is my custom fan curve that I have been using so far and it has worked extremely well so far. You can fine tune it according to your preference. It is pretty aggressive because I want to keep the card in the low 50s to maximize nvidia boost clocks.

A) 36c= 0%,

B) 39c= 30%

C) 42c= 50%

D) 47c= 75%

E) 49c= 90%

F) 50c= 100%.

Vram or vrm? These are two very different things
