I do agree that there is no games to play. So I sold off my gaming PC which is pretty much gathering dust.

This is correct. Below is taken from the top end Gigabyte X570 and Z590 Aorus Extreme's specs. Consumer boards max out at 32GB per slot.I think currently you won't be able to find in any consumer motherboard that single slot can support up to 64GB memory bandwidth.

AMD's FS Super Res is still in its infancy.... so don't even know if games will support and what are the benefits. On the other hand DLSS has matured and more and more games supporting and results are extremely visible.
Ray tracing, well, Nvidia is clearly superior.
We don't know whats going to happen next time with new cards, but for now NVidia is clearly the better one. Not to mention mining..... RTX3080 is worth more than 6900XT.

If its RT, then I would recommend just going for Nvidia for obvious performance advantage. But again, at EPIC/Very High graphical settings, most people won't even realise the difference between a RT and non RT scene. People realise the difference RT brings to the table when,
1. they read reviews and shown a side by side comparison,
2. they played the game before without RT and now playing the game with RT, vice versa, and the RT implementation is very obvious, i.e. Metro Exodus.
As for DLSS, there are only 50 titles with DLSS support. Its a good to have feature if you one is already using an Nvidia card and need more performance, i.e. RTX 2060. By itself, it does not make any meaningful improvement to user experience because most games run with very high FPS if you are using a RTX 3080 and at a resolution below 4K without RT. Even if you were to add another 50% FPS to that non DLSS FPS number, it generally won't make a meaningful difference. In addition, I think AMD's FSR might have a good chance of displacing DLSS if the IQ is good enough, and at the same time, easier for game developers to adopt. FSR is hardware agnostic, so game developers don't have to waste time optimising their game for a specific technology, when there is one that benefits everyone.
As to RTX 3080 worth more than RX 6900XT, that's because its highly sought after by miners. The prices are artificially propped up. If crypto is to die down, and next gen cards announced, that 3 to 4K that you spent on it may only be worth a fraction of it. The same goes for the RX 6900 XT. That's why I recommend just going for the easiest to get, and cheapest option between the 2.
I am not sure if many pple will agree with your comment on DLSS FPS number, esp. for AAA titles. Of course, no doubt that most games run very well on 6900XT @ 1440p and no RT. I can understand if its 6700XT or even 6800, but do you think its acceptable that the flagship 6900XT cant run 4K and RT well?
I would say AMD needs DLSS even more because its struggling with RT. And 50% increase is a massive massive difference when you consider pre-DLSS frame rates are ~50fps....Even at 1080p, 6900XT manages just around 70fps. Even Nvdia cards struggled massively with RT. That 50% makes a big difference between playable and non-playable frame rates.
Btw, with 144Hz monitors becoming common, more and more players expect their games to run alot higher than 60fps now. So, even without RT, its is big difference between 80fps and 120fps.
To clarify, DLSS needs developers to specifically implement it in the game. So, its an extra work. Hence, why not many games support it. And, i believe most people can't tell whether RT is on or off anyway. DLSS uses AI and machine learning to achieve its effect.
As for fidelity FX SR, reports say that it will be easy to implement in games and that it will be compatible between amd or nvidia cards. So, it is likely this will see broader developer support than DLSS. Especially given that the base of radeon cards that can use the tech is quite large if you include PS5 and Xbox X systems. The tech does not use AI and machine learning. Early reports are saying a June launch for it with 50-70% improvement in FPS with RT turned on.
It could be a pretty big game changer. I am vested in a 6900 XT. If the tech works well, prices of radeon 6000 cards could go up even more.
As for mining, i read that the 3060, 3070 and 3080 cards manufactured from May onwards will be gimped.
So, that's that for miners snapping these cards up. They will have to go for the 3090 and the radeon 6000 cards. But, who knows, maybe someone will be able to 'unlock' these new 3060, 3070, 3080 cards in the future.

Surveys from Steam have shown that most gamers are still on 1080p and increasingly on 1440p. At both resolutions, all the high end GPUs can easily handle the game above 100, with some e-sports title hitting 400+ FPS assuming no CPU bottleneck. Now if you were to enable DLSS for these sorts of scenario, it will boost FPS for sure. But my question is for what? In my case, I am using an ultrawide 3440x1440 @ 144Hz. With V-Sync on, the framerates are locked to 144Hz. I am not downplaying Nvidia here. But the truth is, just for the sake of RT and I have to shell out 3+ K for a RTX 3080 is not worth it (speaking for myself here). Its not like the current cards are handling every RT title out there without any problem. CyberPunk, Medium and Metro Exodus EE is already giving the RTX 3080 quite the beating @ 4K, even with DLSS on. The cheapest RX 6900 XT I spotted is around 2599 for a high end build, while a high end RTX 3080 will set you back by 3.2K easily. So if you do or die must have RT, then too bad, then you got to fork out the 500 to 600+ difference.
In my opinion, I honestly don't believe AMD's FSR will be better than DLSS. However for me, if it is 70 to 80% as good, I am happy with it.Am in the mids of planning a new build but cant get past paying the crazy prices of RTX GPU now. What you mention does strike the same note as what I am thinking. Comparing RTX vs AMD's radeon GPU, suddenly the radeon GPU makes more sense pricewise if die die want to go ahead now. The practicality of a real-world difference gaming on 1440 without RT & DLSS vs paying the extra premium doesnt seem justifiable to me currently.
With the rumoured news that AMD is coming out with their own version of DLSS, got to see if it will be able to match RTX's version.
For me likely I will just adopt a wait and see approach.. from what we know, most profitable GPU mining are only on Eth. Maybe when Eth moves to a proof-of-stake some time this year and if there are no futher GPU minable coins suddenly appearing, hopfully GPU prices will start stabalizing and going back to how it should normally be.
Needing to spend almost 2k to get a mid-tier GPU when previously it used to cost in the 600-800 range is just ridiculous now imo
