It really depends on what you use the computer for. Upgrade when your rig can no longer do what you want it to do.

Intel usually refresh their CPU lineup almost every 1 to 1.5yr, AMD is now getting back into the CPU lineup.

It all depend on how much you want to spend and if your current rig is still able to meet your daily usage and needs. If it can't then you should consider getting an upgrade.

That said, if you are not a hardware enthusiast, current AMD and Intel lineup will last you for at least a few good yrs ahead.

Will you upgrade to Threadripper for your Stormblood streams :D

No, Ryzen7 is more than capable for LOLSCH OJT stream le.

But I will upgrade when JAV has UHD release and MakeMKV supports UHD ripping too :s34:

May be TS may want to share what you normally do with your com? I feel in most cases, people don't need anything more than what an R5 1600 can deliver at this point in time.

Anyway, its quite interesting that after AMD Ryzen came out, AMD and Intel are suddenly locked in this number of core count war. However, Intel is still pricing itself out of the market, even though they have an edge in terms of single core performance.
