ryzen rig recommendation

hi all, my desktop has died on me (finally)..

I'm thinking of getting a ryzen 5 2600 based rig as its more value for money (i think)

not really decided on the mobo and GPU to pair it with, but i mainly do light gaming (nothing of high intensity FPS nature), quite a bit on PS and lightroom works..

My SSDs are still in working condition so i dont need them. Hoping to keep it within 900-1k. appreciate your suggestion and i dont mind spending abit more for abit more performance. Thanks!

Some opinions as someone who just did a month's worth of market research earlier:

Mobo depends. MSI Tomahawk b450 board should be best value (400). Get them with cpu bundle at simlim is the most value option, unless you want to handle overseas RMA. Try to ask for price matching and compare your options across pricelists.

Good GPU choices are 1060, rx580. Those can be bought for 280~ or less if you stack some Qoo10, lazada, shopee vouchers. 1050/1050Ti is pretty garbage/not worth it imo

SSD buy at lazada if you need one? (80ish can get 500gb)

PSU can reuse else get corsair cx550m for 90~

You might need to change ram as well. DDR4 boards is not backwards compatible with DDR3 boards. Get some ram off newegg for a cheap price. If you want better speeds, make sure you check for samsung b-die/micron compatibility for overclock. If its hynix, high chance of not being able to overclock.

But for your budget, 2666 ram from G.skill ripjaws is good enough. 2x8gb if you need to

But do your own market research before going in! Ryzen 3000 series is coming out in 4 months, DDR5 is about the end of the year and GPU prices Ram prices are still falling.

looks like newegg prices are competitive! thanks for suggestion, just wondering whether i get any significant boost if i part with more money for a "gaming mobo".. but that could be wastage if i dont game..

any particular brands for the 1060? or more of personal preference?
haha i think its my psu which died.. and my rig is kinda old already, so just thought of getting a new one.
ya sucks that plenty new stuff coming out, but i need a desktop now so probably can only get what is value of money now.
i wonder if those days of going to a shop at SLS and get everything from them including assembly is over given the potential savings when one shops online

Zotac brand of gpu should be fine.
1 thing I like is that it come with 5 year warranty.

just to add on what shamatt says, if ur not gaming then an APU sounds more up your alley. coupled with that i dont even think u will need more than 550w psu without a dedicated gpu.

No particular brand, just get the cheapest if you want. They all work the same to me anyways, unless its amd gpu then I would be on team sapphire all the way. You can always hold on to your current rig if you can figure out the cause then just change it when all the new parts come in (About 3/4 year, with Navi series GPU coming too).
Or if you're like me, buy a vega 64 just cause it was on sale, then get forced to build a system around it.. Then just get the best price/performance parts LOL

Another way is just replace your psu then change your spec later on.

1 thing I like is that it come with 5 year warranty.

Palit now also comes with 5 year warranty, I personally find them more reliable than Zotac though.

Remember that Ryzen 3000 is also AM4, this means you can get a cheap APU to tong first then once Ryzen 3000 is out, get one of them and swap with the APU
