S100 Woes - Lens cannot retract

I bought my Canon Powershot S100 back in 2012 (late July/Early August)
and seems like it's defective

the lens cannot retract and the camera is pretty much unusable... unless viewing the pictures on the SD card

tried factory reset
taking out battery
etc..

nothing works.

and it seems like my warranty expired last year too - what options do I have? and any idea how much a repair would cost?

lens error usually associate with dirt trapped in the lens barrel or in the mechanism.

did you dropped it when the lens are extended or force pushed the lens barrel?

It says

nope camera was never dropped. and never used force on the lens barrel either

recently i repaired my friend's zr1200 lens barrel with a piece of paper and blower. switching on the camera, the lens will extend and then immediately retracted back... saying "lens error".

first, i switched on the camera and held onto the extended lens barrel preventing it from retracting back.

then, i used the blower to blow off likely dust or small particles into the lens barrels.

then i use a piece of paper, insert it into the each lens barrel. carefully, feel how much it could go into the barrel without applying pressure/force, and turned the paper around it a few times.... hoping stuck dust/particles would drop off or dislodged. after that, not forgetting to use the blower again on the lens barrels.

lastly, i switched on the camera again, the lens retracted back. and................. it extended out again.

the problem is that the S100 lens is permanently out right now - it's fully extended

but I'll give your suggestion a try later

Is there sufficient battery in your battery? It happened to mine before, but it kinda happened before my battery died, and it was stuck there. But after I took out and fully recharged my battery and tried again, it worked again. Not sure if so, but maybe try fully charging your battery

happened to my Fuji camera before. I think after I brought it to the beach.
guess sand particles gt stucked inside.

I tried... tried using my blower also... no luck :/

Have you tried calling Canon and asking them about it? Seems like a particular batch of S100 has a lens error issue.
