Recently, SAF has overpaid me for few thousand. I want to check what will happen if I do not return the money?

Can anyone advise on this?

What can they do? Just want to know the consequences before I make my decision to return.

if they find out, they can ask you to return lor.

if you don't cooperate or you insist dun return, then very simple, see you in court.

so have they asked you to return? if not just keep quiet first lor.

If you have that kind of thinking, good luck in life.

You know the money isn't yours, you did no work or provided a service to warrant the payment, yet you want to hold on to it, play the wait and see game.

It is not as if you found the money left in a bag somewhere with no form of identification.

If that was the case, then nobody will say you are dishonest.

Here, you clearly know the money is undeserved.

The money could be meant for someone who has actually worked for it - you are now probably holding onto someone's salary.

You want to wait and see - they can also wait and see - they can freeze your bank account to prevent the transfer/withdrawal - while they investigate.

You like your bank account to be frozen? No more ATM withdrawals, no more cedit/debit card access?

I believe it's also a crime to keep a bag of money that you found on the streets without any means of identification.

Anyway I don't think mindef will not be able to pay the other person just because they over pay this.

Actually TS definitely ain't too bright. This sort of thing right, ts can always act blur say u never check or what not. But now that he stupidly go post in a public forum. If he thinks the authorities can't track him if they bother to, he should consider just mentioning some bomb threat and see if he gets take down at his house in the foreseeable future. How smart.

OK lah, since you so timid, so blur, I let SAF know.

Ask them to search their payment records to check for your 'bonus'.

if you are in the dark about what's going on, you at least still can deny knowing anything.

But the fact that you are asking this in a public forum shows that you are fully aware that the money doesn't belongs to you. Some people here have already spoken and gave u their advice. It will be up2u to decide for yourself what's the best course of action you should take.

They might or might not know if you didn't tell them.

The fact that you have posted this thread in a public forum meant that you cannot deny any knowledge of the overpayment. You might be even charged for intentionaly withholding money that ain't yours.

You should think about what you should say, yourself. this is not rocket science. But here's a tip. U should be asking them why the overpayment rather telling them there's an overpayment.

They might have paid you for something you should be getting but u didn't realise you should get

Even if you don't return, you are also not suppose to use it. If you do, they can file a lawsuit against you. I believe this is also how a wrong bank transfer works.

You might as well return it. You will never win against a govt organization. The worst thing is you don't even have a reason to win this lawsuit if they sue you.

considering the payment system is automated now a days, are you very sure they overpaid you?

don't later become underpaid.

maybe you should call ns hotline and ask if the payment amount is correct or not first.

If its really overpaid, you DEFINITELY have to return it. Its only a matter of time that they will ask you to.

Its the same with banks. If suddenly one day you discover someone wrongly transferred funds to you, you better inform the bank. Its their job to find out who it is, but at least you have returned the money. You act blur and if the rightful owner realises the mistake and contacts the bank, good luck when they find out you are the one. This was mentioned in the newspapers before.

Bottomline, don't be dishonest.

This kind of thing also need to ask...

Either you act blur or you call them and tell them the mistake...

NS never teach you how to act blur?
