safe to buy HDD from amazon?

Anyone bought HDD from amazon before? Did it arrive DOA? Thats my main concern.

Besides HDD, what other stuff do you guys buy from there? I was checking out the cpu and mobo bundles and found out bizgram is actually cheaper than amazon.

I was in kinda the same boat recently, and I emailed Seagate and their support says warranty is worldwide.

Their reply:

Not sure about the other brands. Good thing about Seagate, here in SG at least, is that they handle RMAs directly. For WD, I believe you have to go through distributor.

In the end I ended up buying locally. The price difference is not enough to make up for the wait.

If the saving is substantial, I might consider. Problem is most of the mechanical drives out there now are no longer as reliable/ durable, as compared to the past. So if I really need to get a mechanical drive, I might consider getting it locally. But as snipes14 mentioned, if Seagate offers warranty here in SG, I think its not that bad, though I always avoid Seagate drives like a plague.

Actually Seagate was quite okay for me. So far the failures I had were all Samsung drives. Let's see how this 3TB works out for me...

That's good news all right. Now my usd129 purchase for my seagate 4tb desktop backup plus is insured!

I think some SSD brands are in Amazon are significantly cheaper. Example, Samsung 840Pro. I think one should be able to bring it in, if with Amazon's free shipping, for around 300 bucks. Local prices are around 370 to 380+. This is at least 20% dif in price, and the RMA cost is actually very low, even if you have to send it back for RMA.

Prob is Samsung and Seagate are one and the same now.

You can to go WD website and do a transfer of warranty to Singapore.
Did it last time when I got 4 x 2TB from HKG.
Give a call to customer service to guide you on how to do the transfer.
