Seems like this year's sakura blooming period is gonna be pretty messed up due to the current warmer winter.

Many of the usual sakura prediction websites are still not up yet (usually starts in Feb) but I'm already seeing info about sakura starting their blooming process in some parts of Japan.

So, I am starting this thread for us to share info on sakura bloom for those of us who are trying to catch sakura blooming season in Japan this year.

Please share any sakura prediction websites (or news about sakura blooming in anywhere in Japan) that you come across on this thread.

Although this is not about Sakura (cherry blossoms), but I just came across a report about plum blossoms being expected to bloom at least 2 weeks earlier than normal in Tokyo.

Also, in some parts of Kawazu (not the main Kawazu riverside area yet though), sakura have already started to bloom.

Kawazu is in Izu peninsula in Shizuoka prefecture, about 2hrs south of Tokyo, and Kawazu's sakura usually blooms in end-Feb to early March.
But it is not even mid-January now.

Since I'm planning to visit Kawazu in end Feb to see Sakura, so I am actively tracking the sakura blooming status for Kawazu lately, as well as checking Kawazu's livecam.

For sakura viewing, I am gambling on 17-29 Mar, starting with Kyoto from 17-19 Mar since there is a Kiyomizu-dera light up from 12-21 Mar.

After that, I will be gunning for 25-29 Mar in Tokyo (conincide with Anime Japan 2016 on 26/27 Mar weekend).

I will be getting a JR Rail Pass for 7 days to move up and down from 19-25 Mar.

Any suggestions on what other places will be good bets around that time?

Seems that 21 Mar is a public holiday so the 19-21 Mar weekend is over booked in many areas. Was thinking to stay in Hiroshima for 1 night but it seems to bloom later than Kyoto.

*Since these twitter posts are in Japanese, and my knowledge of Japanese language is very limited, therefore please correct me if I'm wrong.

I just saw someone tweeted this morning about sakura tree blooming somewhere in Kawazu.

Although this is probably not at the main sakura site along the river at Kawazu (I just went to check Kawazu's livecam, those have yet to start blooming), but still, it's barely even mid-Jan and already starting to hear about sakura blooming.

Also saw another person mentioning about sakura starting to bloom at Atami.

I wonder if I will be able to catch sakura at Kyoto in end Feb instead, at the rate this is going...

Haiz...

you may have to pay to change the flight schedule which may be fully booked as others are also doing similar reschedules.

also, hotel accomodations wont be cheap at that period of time and may not be available.

in 2015 April, I booked airbnb apartment in Shinsaibashi for 3D2N for a whopping $1k2 for 5 pax, which is slightly out of the way from metro/subway.

Saw these on twitter today:
Someone posted this pic taken at Inuyama castle near Nagoya:

Also, someone else posted this for Kamakura:

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can go to for sakura in end-feb?
If Kawazu's sakura starts to bloom more than 2 weeks earlier than normal (which seemed highly possible this year), then we might be too late to catch sakura at Kawazu, so I have to start thinking of my backup options.
