For sakura viewing, I am gambling on 17-29 Mar, starting with Kyoto from 17-19 Mar since there is a Kiyomizu-dera light up from 12-21 Mar.

After that, I will be gunning for 25-29 Mar in Tokyo (conincide with Anime Japan 2016 on 26/27 Mar weekend).

I will be getting a JR Rail Pass for 7 days to move up and down from 19-25 Mar.

Any suggestions on what other places will be good bets around that time?

Seems that 21 Mar is a public holiday so the 19-21 Mar weekend is over booked in many areas. Was thinking to stay in Hiroshima for 1 night but it seems to bloom later than Kyoto.

Same, if I am flying off on 18/03 till 28/03. First 7 days will be in Osaka and Kyoto so hopefully I will be able to see the Sakura at Osaka castle and my last two days will be in Tokyo, hoping to catch Sakura there also

For those who are considering going Kawazu for sakura:

I just emailed Kawazu's tourist info office, asking them how's the current sakura situation like over there and what are my chances of catching sakura bloom on my day of visit (25 feb).

Their reply was, although there are some trees that have started blooming, but the temperature dropped recently, so they estimate that I should be able to catch full bloom during my visit.

Also advised me to check the Kawazu's livecam to monitor the sakura conditions.

currently japan is under a cold spell at least until the coming weekend... watch out for weather next week to see if the temp remains at around this week level (single digit in the day, slightly under zero at night), once the temp starts climbing, the buds will start opening probably (cos some of the sakuras already opened in Jan, so the rest should be just waiting around the corner I guess?)

So hmm if he weather suddenly go cold. Will the buds close then wait again for appropriate timing?

if the bud has already bloomed, i don't think it will bloom again right? it is only if it has not bloom yet, then the cold temp will delay it further...

Oic which means if those areas already start to bloom even abit means in march will not see any sakura?
