Visited Osaka Mint today, super crowded and the queue before 10am feels like the starting line for a marathon. Full bloom on lots of trees.

The path is one way but the return path outside is lined with lots of food stalls.

The Osaka mint is famous for their kanzan sakuras, very pretty and fluffy pink flowers but they look a bit different from the usual somei yoshino variety. The good thing is that they usually bloom after the somei yoshino so you can still see them after the normal ones have fallen.

Reached Lake Kawaguchiko today and the trees are in full bloom. Unfortunately, don’t think they can last much longer. Strong wind in the afternoon caused a lot of petals to fall in a blizzard.

Not sure if I will try Pagoda tomorrow, heard from hotel owner it is not so good now.

There seems to be more than one variety, can see different names on the trees and some are even yellowish.

There’s heavy rainfall forecast over this weekend according to local news updates. Good luck to you if you’re heading there.

Went to Shiroishi River and walk across the station near Ogawara, the blossom here is late stage, still ok. Quite cold around here and the next location.

Then took a trip to Kajo Park/Yamagata Castle, here it’s peak bloom, it looks quite beautiful. The walk there is quite easy too. And there is night lighting for viewing too but recommend anyone who wanna go, go in daylight. Better leave earlier than 8pm if wanna catch last train back to Tokyo.

Both using JR pass.
