Cherry Blossom 2018 forecast by region
The estimated viewing dates are based on data collected in previous years, especially latest years 2016 and 2017, by the Japan Weather Association.

The 2018 sakura season is expected to be the same as normal in the central Japan and slightly later than usual in Shikoku and Kyushu (southern Japan).

The best times to visit (full bloom) werearound April 2nd in Tokyo, April 6th in Hiroshima, and April 7th in Kyoto and Osaka. Check again soon for updated information on your region of interest.

Also, please keep in mind that most flowers usually take a week to reach full bloom once blooming has started.

going Japan from Good Friday onwards for 2 weeks.

Hotel in Kyoto especially steep. Even more expensive than Koyo timing.

Any probability of the sakura bloom being delayed this year due to the colder winter?

I am thinking of a mid April trip to cover Tateyama Alpine Route (opens on 15 Apr) and Kamikochi (opens on 17 Apr).

Will probably arrive in Japan on the second week of April (9 or 10) but not sure if it will be too late for west Japan or Central region.

Is there any good spots for Sakura in the Hokuriku region? Seems that the bloom is later in that region, mid April.

Am thinking to do 10 to 22 April so that I can catch Takayama Festival + Snow Wall + Kamikochi.

A famous one I know of is Kanazawa Kenrokuen. Is there any other recommended spots in the nearby region or from Tokyo radius.

Tokyo will be earlier. But Kyoto seems to be the same timing as historical

Yes i meant Tokyo forgot to specify in my message. Didn’t schedule to go for Sakura more of dates we could manage to travel together so this is a nice surprise.

There is Sakura in Shirakawago? Don't plan to bring a lot of winter clothes this trip, so might avoid Shirakawago for this trip.

You want to do Kurobe Tateyama without winter wear? Then you might as well skip Tateyama. It’s not that cold in Shirakawa-go if the flowers are out. Instead Shin-Hotaka Ropeway and Kurobe would probably be around 1°C~0°C. Like it or not, you’ll still need the clothes to do the Alpine Route.

Spring wear and winter wear have some significant differences

I have been up there in autumn with snow on the ground so I have a rough idea of the temperature.
Compare to Shirakawa-go, Murodo is not that bad because you are not constantly outdoors. Can head back into the building after walking one side to warm up.
