Hi guys, I have just completed my degree in Logistics & Supply Chain Management. However still awaiting for my final result. I am currently working in a SME 3PL company and my salary is approx $1.9k (private diploma) with 1.5 yrs in this industry.

I went for an interview on last week at this logistics MNC and was offered an Executive position with starting salary of $2.4k with a possibility of increment after 3 months of probation.

Just wanna ask you guys for advise and opinions whether is the pay range that I have been offered consider alright for a private degree holder with 1.5 yrs of experience in logistics industry?

The market rate is around there. But still can go higher even for fresh graduate.

It really depend on what kind of 1.5 years of experience you have & what is the scope of work for your new job.

Eg: 1.5 years of store man experience for new Transport Executive job.

In this case, I can tell you that your 1.5 years of store man experience is useless & you are as good as a fresh graduate for your new Transport Executive job.

May I ask how much did you ask for in your resume? Also, how many resumes did you send out and how many replies were there?

2.4K for logistics is actually quite okay; if you get OT pay, even better.

It really depend on what kind of 1.5 years of experience you have & what is the scope of work for your new job.

Eg: 1.5 years of store man experience for new Transport Executive job.

In this case, I can tell you that your 1.5 years of store man experience is useless & you are as good as a fresh graduate for your new Transport Executive job.

My position now is an Freight Executive. Main priority is to plan and promoting the best mode of transport to my clients needs. I'm also handling project shipment like oil and gas equipments. I'm considered a account manager too which I have abt 10 clients under my care now. On the other hand I will need to oversee my operation department.

if you think it is okay, then just do it.

If it is a big MNC, you can ask around for more information can career progression.

If you are in a hurry to start work, this is a good way to gain work experience.

Just remember, during the 1st 3 months, if another MNC offer you sometime better, do take it. Once you are past 3 months, it would be difficult.

Hi,

An offer of $2.4K is actually quite okay, for:

a) Private degree holder
b) It is in the logistics industry
c) It is your starting pay
d) You have 1.5 years of experience
e) You are getting OT pay

I say this because I personally know NUS/NTU graduates (Non-honours, just normal pass), doing admin/operational roles in large MNCs with 2-3 yrs experience and also drawing around 2.4K to 2.6K, without OT pay.

If you are going to get a lot of OT, it is worth it, because you

a) get the experience
b) you get OT pay

I started out with confirmation pay of 2.5K (probation period of 6 months, during which I was drawing $2K), and OT nearly everyday to 10 pm, but after 4 years, still managed to survive.

Generally speaking, never go below $2.5K, for a degree graduate, but $2.4K is really okay, because:

a) It is in a MNC; next time, 4-5 years down the road, when you want to jump ship, it looks better

b) OT pay will more than make up for it

For me, it's usually becoz in my work environment, the bonus is simply not guaranteed, unless you are in civil service, where everybody follows the official announcement.

For private sector, performance bonus can be tied into office politics, and whether the company is doing well or not....

So when i look at pay, I always leave out bonus, meaning that for my personal financial planning, i always leave the bonus out of the calculation.

Haha! I didn't. I went for another interview with another MNC (which is the direct rival with the company that offered me 2.4k) on Tuesday and I have asked for 2.7k. And today have received a call from the recruitment agent saying that the second company that I've asked for 2.7k wishes to meet me on coming Tuesday for confirmation/remuneration package discussion. Hahaha.

I had no choice, becoz when I started work, it was right after the global financial crisis started

one thing to note, with higher pay you might not be able to claim OT amount, i think its a cut off salary directive for OT reimbursement...

I did my degree in Kaplan with Northumbria University. Haha. Their logistics course quite recognised in my interviews with those few europe MNCs.

Their HR must be very impartial about it as I know plenty of Kaplan and SIM friends who have issues getting a -desired- job.
