just get the samsung evo 840 from amazon.. faster than pro.

Pro is fastest in Samsung range of products since it uses MLC and it's 3 times as durable...

Evo and non-pro use TLC...

In general for SSD :
SLC > MLC > TLC...

For the EVO 500GB, it appears that even after incurring GST, amazon is cheaper at US$369 (Amazon.com: Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Single Unit Version Internal Solid State Drive MZ-7TE500BW: Computers & Accessories) compared to SG's price of S$619
Yes...its cheaper.

At a glance, I thought...Wow...not bad price for 500GB/750GB...

Then I saw your post in the Comex thread regarding SSD deals and realized the savings is a LOT when getting from Amazon.

Good find. :)

There are some forumers (me included) who have create sites that compiles ssd prices from amazon and singapore shops updated on a near real time basis. So it makes comparison easier. :)

hmm my previous mlc ssd died after 5 yr of normal os usage. assuming tlc is 3time less durable. it should last maybe ~2yr?but warranty is 3yr. so no worries about durability?:s13:

beside theres cases of samsung 840(tlc rated at 1000 PE cycle) lasting as long as mlc (3000+ PE cycle);

I ordered the 840 evo 1TB from Amazon - should be delivered next week. Even though shipping is free - they charge 7% GST (called import and handling charges) on top..so you are looking closer to 690+ USD for this. Even with this, it is still cheaper than local prices.

Not too worried about warranty - am sure Samsung will honour it, else can always send it back.
