Samsung 970 EVO: Amazon VS Local

Hi guys

Amazon's price for the 970 evo m.2 nvme SSD is 130 USD --> 180 SGD (rounded)

Local prices seem to be charging about $250 and some even going as high as $300 (ridiculous, i won't name them)

Is there any reason for me not to order it from amazon instead?

And if so, are there any local shops which sell it close to amazon's price? Or at least $200, and not have ridiculous middleman margins?

register at samsung us website for ssd bought from newegg or amazon for warranty

RMA cost not sure since i haven tested mine yet

Ssd is a relatively safe buy. Light enough suchthat if really need to rma, it won't cost a bomb.

Granted, ssd has a low doa rate so there's that.

Not all manufacturers will send back to users with a non usa address. Better check with samsung usa first.

thank you for all your great inputs. all taken into consideration.
Considering that shipping is about $7-$15 (one-way), and that the tiny ass chance of RMA is low, i'll get a local one for $219 (check price lists, one of them offers at this price and maybe call them for better offer, can't rmb which).

Difference between 180 SGD and 220 SGD is 40 SGD, which might be justified for the shipping costs, waiting time and possible (although tiny) chance of DOA, send back costs as well as whether samsung usa will entertain overseas requests.

I think if the price gap of what you found on the checklist is big, just check if its got the EA distro sticker on it. It may be parallel import.

I'll give my own opinion as I recently bought a 2TB Samsung 970 Evo NVMe SSD.

The price it was offered on Newegg with free shipping at that time was $787.37 after you include GST.

The one sold locally from Lazada was available for $850.49 after I include a $50 discount + shipping.
Samsung was having an offer at that time to redeem a free Samsung colour laser printer/scanner that uses toner.
The price of said printer when checking online was worth $300+.
Shipping was a tad bit faster too since it was shipped locally.

So for me, at that time, it was a no-brainer for me to opt for the local one since the printer can easily be sold at $100 and I could have made a profit out of it when compared to Newegg's overseas SSD with no local warranty.
Though I chose to keep it due to it being a colour printer.

So do your own research and see if you find the value worth it or is it better to just go the cheaper route.


Samsung SSDs such as the later series has a very long lifespan due to having a DRAM and all. My oldest, the 840 Pro is still going strong after 7 or so years.

Plus including the falling prices of SSDs this year, it will take a while for the Singapore market to drop in prices when compared to the overseas market. So you'll have to make your decision from there as well.

Find one that gives you value and that is somewhat stable and secure for you as well.
