u better learn to back up least your phone dies on you, no offence.

just back it up to the SD card for pics, contacts sync with google and your apps can also be backed up to google servers.

you probably have a rogue app somewhere draining your batt. install Gsam battery monitor to see if you have any weird phone activity.

p.s: wont be so confident to say its a virus but a poorly coded app that you might have.

Most battery drain issue due to downloading some software that is hogging resources.

Even you bring down to Samsung CSO they will just wipe the phone for you just to eliminate is not a HW issue.

Try to recall the last few apps that you had installed or updated and see whether any of them are causing the battery drain.

There was an instance where I updated a clock widget that broke the weather data feature. It couldn't find 'Singapore'. As a result, it kept trying to connect to the web to retrieve the data and drained the battery in the process. I only found the cause of the battery drain when I noticed the app consuming hundreds of MB of data every few days which was obviously wrong.

What's the primary consumer of your device's battery according to the battery settings screen?

Sometimes (and recently), Google Play Services goes haywire for whatever dumb reason that Google only knows and keeps the phone awake constantly. The thing wakelocked my phone for over 16 hours before. If that's the source of your battery drain, turning off the phone and pulling out the battery for about 10 seconds before re-inserting it an turning the phone on could help.

Well yeah... Wifi tethering definitely drains battery, no way to get around that. The phone needs to maintain a wifi connection to all connected devices as well as data connection, and it has to respond to any request for data via that wifi connection by any device. Basically as long as there's a device connected to your hotspot, the Note 3 cannot go to sleep, hence the huge battery drain. Having said that, I've ever tethered my Surface Pro to the Note 3 for close to 8 hours and still had about 40+% batt left.
