Do you happen to have a PC that you can connect it up to?

When you say you have connected it to a PC, what PC and how are you validating it's not working? I assume you have not gone into the Disk Manager (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac) to initialise and format the drive.

the drive does not show up on the pc

Does anything detect when you plug in the USB? If you hear or see some hardware installing then this is a good sign. You then need to open up Disk Management and look for the new drive - should be there. Then you initialise and format it for it to start appearing in File Explorer.

Will it degrade the performance?
By the way I got one that is 1 year old.
Wrote 1.9tb of data. How long more expect the lifespan.

2ndly can I rapid mode in Linux

Samsung Magician will diagnose the conditions of the drive... mine easily 5x your write data... and showing GOOD.... main thing u need to overprovision otherwise your ssd will gg very fast when its 100% used.

once u put inside a usb case, max it goes is 100MB, 20% of its potentials....
No diff from a legacy cylinder HDD, its a waste...from my point of view.

Read on write endurance

Assuming yours is 256GB model, you still have at least 25yrs more more of write to go
