Samsung is bringing an entry-level smartphone at only S$208. The Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016) is only 4.5-inches in size, which is great if you want a smaller Android OS phone that packs in all the necessary smartphone functions.

Despite its entry-level price point, the phone has a Quick Launch Camera for on-the-fly photography. You can access the camera by double-tapping the Home button. It has a 5-megpixel rear camera with a lens aperture of f2.2, and a front camera at 2-megapixels.

Within the new Galaxy J1 is a 1.3GHz Exynos 3475 quad-core processor, coupled with 1GB RAM. It’s small and light, at just 132.6 x 69.3 x 8.9mm and 131g. The device has a dedicated microSD card slot that supports up to 128GB on top of its built-in 8GB storage. It’s 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display has 480 x 800 pixels resolution, which gives us a pixel density of ~245 ppi. The Samsung phone uses Android 5.1.1 OS (Lollipop) for its firmware. Network support includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and up to 4G. There’s also Bluetooth 4.1 LE for your short-distance device pairing.

The 2016 version of the Samsung Galaxy J1 will retail at S$208, in either Black or Gold. It can be found at selected local telecommunication operators, major Consumer Electronics Stores, authorized retailers and Samsung Experience Stores. It will be available come 23th April 2016 (tomorrow).

Samsung brings its vivid AMOLED displays to the younger, trendier crowd at competitive prices with their new Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) and Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016). Priced at S$268 and the S$348 respectively, the new Galaxy J3 and Galaxy J5 makes Samsung's smartphones much more affordable than its flagship Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge phones.

The 5.0-inch Galaxy J3 features an 8-megapixel rear camera, while the 5.2-inch Galaxy J5 has a 13-megapixel rear camera. By comparison, the flagship Galaxy S7 has a 12-megapixel rear camera. Both phones have a 5-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture, so selfies are certainly a cinch with these devices. Both phones have the Quick Launch Camera feature, making it easier for its users to quickly capture their favorite moments via a simple double-tapping of the Home button.

Both the Galaxy J3 (2016) and the Galaxy J5 (2016) come with dual-SIM support and a MicroSD card slot. While one SIM slot can only support up to LTE Cat 4 at any given time, both phones are still versatile since a user can manage their mobile data while getting more storage flexibility.

The Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) is already available in colors Black or Gold, and the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) will start retail on 2nd June 2016 in colors White or Gold. Both phones will be available at local telco shops, selected major electronic stores, authorized retailers, and of course, Samsung Experience Stores.

The Galaxy J5 Prime is equipped with a 5-inch HD TFT LCD display, a quad-core 1.4GHz processor, 2GB RAM, Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, 16GB internal storage space with microSD support up to 256GB and a 2,400mAh non-removable battery.

Other specs include a 13-megapixel f/1.9 camera, LED flash, 5-megapixel front-facing f/2.2 camera, Bluetooth 4.2, a fingerprint sensor and an 8.1mm thin chassis.
The Galaxy J5 Prime will also be updated in Q1 2017, to support 4G+3G Dual SIM. (refer to post #58 of this thread)

Priced at S$298 (without line contract and inclusive of GST), the Galaxy J5 Prime can be purchased at all local telcos, selected major consumer electronics and IT stores, authorized mobile retailers and Samsung Experience Stores.

I think both slots support 4G LTE/3G/2G, but when there's two SIMs in the phone, only one will be in 4G LTE/3G/2G while another will be only in 2G GSM.

In short, i wont want to remove the sim card to slot in everytime i need to change the data network, if i want to change the settings for data to be used on my phone..

S5 duos can do it without removing sim card, just go to settings and change but sad to say the unit failed me already, so i bought a note 4 duo hoping that it perform the same but end up i got to remove the sim everytime..

Galaxy J5 (2016) review by GSMArena:

Overall looks like a good phone at its price~
J5 already arrive locally for display at Samsung stores , as well as our favourite mobile shops at just $304. :s12:

Was looking around phones for my mum and this seems to be a perfect phone for her. It has a plasticky metal frame with a plastic metal-brushed look on its back. The LED light on its front camera is a plus. But unfortunately it comes with a lowly Snapdragon 410 that is also found on my 1yo cheapo Redmi 2. And this phone is a heavy beast at 159g!

Too bad have to give it a miss since my mum prefers phone with better camera. :(

Redmi Note 3? Seems like a better choice with the J5 2016 ~

My mum doesn't like Xiaomi phones. And i did introduce her Redmi Note 3 but she didn't seem to be convinced. Camera performance also rather average.

Redmi Note 3 will be a no brainer, much better buy over Galaxy J5 less the AMOLED display on the Galaxy.
