android pay and samsung pay are both different technologies, not even subset.

some people might get confused between these 2 but i agree, why use android pay when samsung pay is available.. :D

Haha yeah! If samsung pay is avail just use it. More secure and can pay at more places too :)

For android pay to activate itself when it is placed near the reader, it will most probably require the app to be always on in the background/nfc always turned on? (Ps I am not sure abt that and I'm only assuming cos most apps need to be in the bg for it to react to an external source) This might lead to battery drain issues.. :( I suggest to just use samsung pay if you have the latest samsung phones bah.. or wait till samsung expand the list to include the S6 and other 2016 phones like the A series :D

Yea android pay must have nfc always be turn on which can drain the battery. That is the downside of it.

if i'm not wrong even when you are in the app android pay asks you to turn on NFC before you can use it to pay. No auto on NFC like Samsung pay

Oo that's a major drawback.. nfc drains battery v fast. Got a few times last year forget turn off nfc after using it and my SOT for S6 dropped to only 2 hours

That why we need LTA to push for integrating with EZ-Link into Samsung Pay that may never come.

LTA already announce contactless credit/debit cards trial for use as payment for transport end of this year
So Samsung Pay/ Apple Pay/ Android Pay can all be used when that starts

samsung pay will not activate when u place near the reader. in fact, it will just turn the transaction from nfc payment to EMV sales. then u need to redo the whole transaction again.

i remember someone mentioned using apple pay method (i.e. put finger on home button when screen off and place phone near reader) also works for samsung pay. so this method not working?

btw, how does samsung pay turn the transaction from nfc payment to EMV sales?

what is the difference between the two NFC technology?

Android Pay= NFC, Samsung Pay=NFC + MST

Like that not call subset??

Samsung pay don't turn nfc to emv sales. It's the terminal itself that do that because of an invalid nfc signal. You can try it if you want. Without activating Samsung pay, you put your phone on the reader when your NFC is turned off, nothing happens. If your NFC is turned on but simple pay not activated, u get a error message and then your transaction turns to insert/swipe method.

Tried samsung pay at Mac today. Keep having error 61, luckily the cashier was patient and told me to try my card instead to see what happens, turns out also error 61. I'm guessing it's the terminal issues that's not resolved rather than samsung pay itself

Yea, you are right. It does look like either the terminal or could be bank issue. Have you done a successful card transaction at that Mac before? With or without Samsung Pay...
