Hello all!
Last year, Samsung introduced their premium SUHD televisions. The SUHD lineup continues this year with technological and design improvements throughout the series.

Allow me to share my experience with the new KS7500 55” Quantum Dot curved television.

Unboxing, assembly and setup is extremely simple and organized. Television stands are attached to the main unit without any screws and I could get the system up and running effortlessly without the reference of the user manual.

The television is remarkably thin with the front glass that flows right to the brushed metal edges, giving an illusion of a bezel-less display. Actual screen comes close at only 1cm away from the edge. It also utilizes Ultra Black technology (moth eye filter) to reduce glare, thus enhancing display contrast. The pair of sleek chrome stands add to the minimalistic design and lifts the display up for a neat appearance.

The One Connect Mini distributes all connectivity out from the main unit. This tremendously helps in cable management. It is considerably smaller than the previous generation while retaining full functionality, except for wired LAN which connects to the main unit.

The Samsung One Remote is comfortable to use and responsive. I particularly love the raised volume/channel multi-directional buttons which allow me to control the television without much finger travel. The lack of motion control does not hinder my experience one bit.

Setting up the television was pretty fun. I was greeted with a welcome screen with soothing music in the background. With a few prompts, Wi-Fi connection and channel scanning was done and I was on my way to enjoy this television.

Welcome back!
Let me continue to share more about this television. Having owned the JS9000 television which is Samsung’s 2015 SUHD offering, I will be mentioning areas where the KS7500 is improved.

User Interface

The KS7500’s UI is built upon the newly improved Tizen TV 2.0. It has been simplified to match the Samsung One Remote for a unified experience. The home button on the One Remote brings up the Smart Hub, an overlay which has settings, source, search and apps. Recommended content are shown for supported apps and allows you to get right into your media without entering the app.

As for settings, frequently used items are easily accessible and the rest are tucked away under “Expert Settings”.
An addition to the remote is Voice Interaction. You can say voice commands while pressing down this button. Voice recognition is accurate. The KS7500 is very responsive to every command sent to it. The Tizen OS is definitely well optimized as the KS7500’s quad-core system performed just as well, if not better than my JS9000 which has an octa-core system.

Universal Remote

External devices connected to the KS7500 can be controlled via the Samsung One Remote. Upon following on-screen instructions for device registration, I was able to control a connected Blu-ray player and an AndroidTV box seamlessly via the Samsung One Remote. This feature relies on an online database which gets updated all the time so you can be sure of maximum compatibility!

Smart View

I found myself using this feature frequently. It allows me to cast my favorite pictures, videos and music onto the television from my mobile phone. Not only that. Smart View is also available on the Windows platform. I had guests over for dinner last week and I had no problems sharing my latest holiday album.

Picture Quality

The KS7500 employs a range of technologies to produce supreme picture quality. As mentioned before, Ultra Black technology is an anti-reflective filter that massively reduces unwanted reflections and enhances black levels.

This television also has micro-dimming which controls the LED backlight levels according to the image displayed. SUHD televisions are known for achieving wider color gamut due to their Quantum Dots Display. Basically it means more colors can be generated resulting in extremely vibrant pictures. This aids in displaying High Dynamic Range (HDR) content which I’ll explain next.

High Dynamic Range (HDR1000)

The KS7500 sports a “Ultra HD Premium” certification. What does that mean? It’s a selection of premium ultra-high definition standards for resolution, high 10-bit color depth and dynamic range to give you the very best in audio-visual experience.
This television supports the common HDR10 open standard which Samsung calls it “HDR1000”. I shall be referring to these terms simply as “HDR”. HDR is the ability to display richer colors, brighter whites and darker blacks. It preserves details in the darkest and brightest areas of a picture that are lost in non-HDR media. In order to achieve this, the KS7500 emits over 1000 nits of brightness, one of the highest in the industry.

I had to see HDR at work for myself so I fired up the movie “The Martian” on Ultra HD Blu-ray format via the Samsung UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player. The results were amazing. On first look, the colors were richer and bright areas maintained details without being over-exposed.
Below are some sample images taken from the KS7500, while playing Ultra HD Blu-ray with HDR and standard Blu-ray without HDR.

The non-HDR images are over-exposed due to the bright environments, causing loss of detail and color saturation. On the other hand, HDR images have very good lighting and exposure control throughout the frame, capturing every detail like you’d see from your own eyes.

HDR brings out the details from dark scenes which would have been too dark to see on non-HDR capable television.
Amount of HDR content is being increasingly available, not just from Blu-ray titles but also gaming consoles and online video streaming services. It totally makes sense to future-proof your entertainment system with this HDR capable television.

Conclusion

The KS7500 is packed with technology to give you a mind-blowing experience from the design to picture quality. Here are my main points for why you should consider this model for your next television purchase.

  • Curved display increases immersion and makes off-angle viewing possible. That’s one of the main reasons why I own a curved unit myself
  • The exclusive Samsung One Connect Mini connectivity solution makes cable management a whole lot easier
  • Extremely smooth, responsive and intuitive user interface powered by Tizen OS
  • Very low input lag: Perfect for gaming and PC usage
  • Unparalleled image quality: Deep blacks and high peak brightness with HDR

Hope you enjoyed reading my review. Be sure to check out the KS7500 at your favorite store and feel free to leave your questions below.
