SATA Ports Issue

Hi All,

I just bought a Seagate Firecuda 1 TB to expand my storage. Previously I was using Samsung Evo SSD for OS and Samsung 1TB HDD for general storage.

After trying to plug the new Firecuda in, all the other HDD and SSD are not detected in BIOS anymore.
I’m using Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3.
I tried to swap the sata cable around to different ports in the motherboard but it’s still the same.

Anyone knows how to rectify this issue?
If I get pcie sata expansion card, will it work?

Just to confirm, are you running on ACHI / IDE ?

Can you change it to ACHI and see if it makes a difference.

Right now your current issue is, adding new HDD makes old HDD and SSD undetected, but new HDD detected right?

But when you take out the new hdd, does the old hdd and ssd get detected again?

Assuming all your sata ports are working fine, and you left the old HDD and SSD plugged in to where you originally have it and was working fine.

I'm not sure if it can be a power related issue ?
I don't really think drives takes up that much power tbh. But there's a possibility.

Try maybe just os drive with new HDD

The new hdd was not detected, then I tried to swap around the sata cables.
After that all hdd not detected no matter what combinations I put in.

Power wise, I even removed my graphic card to test, but still the same.
So the only explanation I can think of is the Sata ports on the motherboard are broken. But to think that every single port is broken is a bit strange.

Tried that as well. Removed the battery for 15 seconds, change the jumper to pin 2 and 3. Still the same.

I actually managed to find 2 sata ports that are working, but only if I use one of them. If I use both, only 1 is working....

- Make sure your HDD are plug into the correct ports.

*Take note the SATA3_M1/M2 port is tied with eSATA.

There are two storage controller on this mobo, one is Intel and the other
is Marvel.
If on Win 7, may need to load Intel/Marvel driver for it to work properly.

If on Win 10, it should work without any driver.
Check your existing cabling, change if need to if not on the correct port.
