my i-3 1st gen ASUS laptop confirm support SATA SSD
does it means it WILL also support M2 SATA SSD?
or the connector for M2 is different and IS only for recent laptop series ??

No it will not be able to support m.2 sata ssd. Anyway u have to do research on which are the lappy that support m.2 sata ssd. Anyway if day to day usage there isn't any large difference in both type of ssd.

mSata, Sata, M.2 are all different connectors. :)
Some laptops do have mSata type of SSDs
M.2. are often found on higher end range of laptops - such as gaming laptops.
