Recently, LTA awarded the tender to build the satellite-based ERP to the consortium of NCS and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engine System Asia (MHI).

How come there's no hoo-haa about this news on social media and on this forum? Because this means that the govt now can track where you go by car everyday. Isn't this a massive invasion of privacy? The govt now can like spy on us openly, and yet we seem so cool about it!?

Uh..I think they got a pretty strong mandate from us not too many months ago so they can do pretty much whatever they want.

I think the 3G or 4G network in smartphones has enabled authorities the ability to "look" for us anywhere and anytime in Singapore subject to their prerogative to exercise it.

This technology is since 2G day. With todays smart phone feature and application that you are using. The accuracy is down to within a meter.

Yes, that is provided you switch on your phone.

But you can't switch off your GPS ERP card-reader installed in your car, and that is the biggest problem of all time!

Who say you cannot? Is just like you buy a phone, there is no reason you switch it off all the time.

does it mean that if they want, they can know where you are and where you have been at any time?

Satellite ERP tracking is nothing compared to autonomous car. Next time police want you to drink coffee, once you get into the autonomous car, they can lock the doors and drive you to the police station. :s13:

Definitely not a popular decision. Esp with privacy concerns. But will it be an efficient way of curbing road congestion in the long run, time will tell. haha
