Torrents are illegal in very few countries like USA, UK, Singapore but still, I believe there are users of torrents. So it's better to hear from people living in the respective country itself.

There is never any upside doing anything illegal. Sooner or later, one would be caught - everything can be traced nowadays.
If it is illegal, do not do it.

On this, I would like to know if anyone knows if using android TV boxes to watch movies via apps downloaded through the playstore is legal? I am very late into this and am only contemplating getting a roku box now - so would appreciate opinions.

With regards to Android box, it is not illegal per say, you can install Netflix and Amazon Prime and watch movies there if you have a subscription to but if it is an infringement of another company Intellectual Property, it is illegal no matter where you download the apk from...

If the apps are downloaded from Play store, then they are legal to use.

Google won't allow distribution of apps that stream movies illegally.

You can download kodi or uTorrent app from playstore and people mostly use it to stream movies illegally...Of course it is legal to use but downloading copyrighted materials using the app downloaded from the Play Store is definitely illegal...

Those apps are legal. The contents are illegally used.

Apps like Redbox, Livenet, Terrarium are outright illegal so they won't be available in Play store.
