my ballot que is 176 for hougang sobf. but i received appt from HDB.

Anyway if i were to skip this appt what is going to happen?

Yes you can but unlikely the May SOBF results will be out before your July appt.
You still have to decide if you want to book a flat at hougang. In case you do, your May application will be automatically cancelled.

I dont think u can cancel the appt and not be penalised.. u wld be penalised becos from hdb's point of view, u balloted, wasted their resources in allocating a number and appt to u etc. From others' pov, it wldnt be fair to those who want the appt but didnt even get a number at all.
Penalised as in considered one chance wasted. Of cos, if there are no flats left by the time it is ur turn, then u wont be penalised.

i suggest you have a good look at the least popular units in the Hougang selection list, and decide if you are okay to take those maybe #02-XX units that might really be left unselected. otherwise can still pray May SOBF gets you better results?
