Hi. My family are flying to Kansai Airport in Jun 2024 via Scoot (Fly only) at about SGD481 each, we are paying for baggage as add-on.

We are not fussy about our seat location (e.g. window/aisle/center row) and we decided not to pay extra SGD13 (per pax per flight) for seat selection at this juncture. I also understand that our seat will be randomly assigned and our group might not be seat together.

My plan is to see what the random seats were assigned then we decide whether to pay SGD13/15 to "re-arrange" our group.

Roughly when would I be able to know which random seat we were assigned? I tried asking via their chat agent and their respond was that we should pay for add-on and we can select our seat from now till 4 hours before flight departure.

Once you do online check in you will know your seat.

My personal experience with Scoot: I completed the online check-in, and they randomly assigned my seat. However, all seats were under the same booking reference but separated. When I called their hotline, I was informed that if I wanted to change my seat, I would need to pay a seat selection fee, even if it was within the 48-hour time zone.
So, my advice is, if you are willing to pay for your seat, select it now.

Can share at which point of time did you do the online check-in? At 48 hours mark or sometime later?

usually web-check starts 48hr before flight, u will receive email notification from scoot once u can do online check-in

but why take the chance. if flight is packed, may not be possible to seat together even if u pay later.

The flight planner will do the seating arrangement.

Those who paid for their seat selections will (of cos) be given their seats.

Then the remaining will be seated randomly (by the planner). Doesn't matter what time you check in. It's all pre-planned. You can of cos choose to change your seats at the gate subject to seats availability and if anyone wants to change with you or your travelling party.

i think it depends, if flight not filled then might get to seat together if u web check-in early.

but if flight filled especially with many solo or couples tough luck then. one choose window another aisle, middle seat empty or couples will choose to seat together. in the end many single seat dotted everywhere. guess who will get those seats?

I discussed with my family about this Scoot seating arrangement. The kids+parents will most probably purchase the seat selection. The remaining adults will leave it to the good hands of the flight planner. I trust he/she will have common sense to put us close together. If really full flight with no option to shift, we will accept.

I completed the online check-in approximately 48 hours before the flight, with a slight variation in timing due to the time required to fill in passport information. I believed we could select our seats using the seat map. However, Scoot only confirmed the check-in and sent an email indicating separate seats for all four of us. Calling the hotline was unhelpful unless we agreed to pay for seat selection fees. Upon reaching the airport, we realized that no human assistance was available, and only self-check-in kiosks were operational.

Actually kid+ parents may not buy seats cuz they cannot put unaccompanied child (below 12) alone. So will be seating together

This is interesting. If you booked in 1 booking, wonder if they just see it as incurring the anger for 1 group of people to fill the gaps (as much as possible)? Especially putting 3, 1 may not meet the needs of the group anyway.

Yes, I agreed with that. But I leave it to their parents if they want to purchase the seat selection. There might also be chances where the planner might place the 2 kids together with the father and then place the mother somewhere else. It will then be good luck to Daddy, hahaha...

It could be possible that there are no available 2+2 or 3+1 seat arrangement on that flight. Did @Kfc2019 check the seat map after you realised that all 4 of your seats are split? Is the flight fully booked?

From a commercial perspective, it is not common sense to put you all close together. If so, the chance of your group paying for seat is zero.

From a consumer perspective, consumer would hope to get it for free.

i think some may forgot that they are flying budget (LCC). ideal of LCC is to remove frills from FSC so customers can just pay for what they need.

The father can always change with the mother.

Based from my experience, flying with kids will always sit together with one parent either mother or father, if your lucky they will sit you all together, if not, one of you will be sitting elsewhere. Also, if you check-in though manual counter, you can request the staff to sit you together, usually they are okay if there are seats available.
