Screen occasionally blackout

I recently have problem with my monitor screen blackout and then the cpu making buzzing noise. Restart system or monitor help nothing, I have to turn off the power of cpu and then restart.
What could possibly cause this? power or gpu?

how can i check? when it blackout, monitor shows no signal

I had the same problem recently also.
It happens frequently when I am using firefox to browse internet.

If I do not use the browser, it happens, but very rarely.

I later found out that it had something to do with the few latest batches of nvidia drivers.

So I downloaded one of the older drivers, and it solved the problem for me.

You need a spare GPU to test out or bring your GPU to a friend place to test.
As for motherboard, go to distro.

Thanks for the info I will try out. I just updated my nvidia driver as well and then I started having this problem.

to update, installed older version of nvidia driver doesn't fix. anyways, I am going to upgrade my motherboard and gpu, can I know intel 4th gen/haswell based i5 and sandy bridge i7 which excel in gaming performance?

In the Power Option setting, what setting is the Turn Off The Display ? Try setting to Never and see if the problem goes away. I did experience the "cannot wake up from screen saver mode" and reinstalling the AMD gfx driver fixed the problem. Try reseating your GFX card. You can also try a clean install of the GFX drivers.

i got a similar problem but is boot up nothing..on screen

can see hdd runnning
amd x2 2.4ghz
powercolor 5850
sdd 64gb
1tb wd green
4gb ram
window 7 64bit

must restart the sys a few time

i have it set to never always. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall driver from cd but still the same. I have no problem when doing light task like browsing but whenenver i play game it happens. Now i'm only worried about if power supply has anything to do with it.
