Is applying a screen protector really necessary?

Or a habit that everyone got used to?

Are modern touch screens still easily scratched?

I thought most phones would have been designed to be robust enough to withstand some normal wear-and-tear, but of cos not to the extent of resisting scratches by keys and knives.

Any thoughts or comments?

Not necessary. Been ard for 10 years and evolved to tempered glass version now. Doesnt work but ppl just keep on manufacture it.

Most sane users wouldn't put their phone together with coins, keys or knives right? But with normal wear-and-tear (i.e. sitting inside pockets with nothing else in it), I'd still put one on just to be safe lol. I don't mind scratching up the protector instead of the screen taking the brunt of it. Plus I wouldn't worry and hesitate to wipe the screen against my pant or shirt. :D

I see Singaporeans buy a new phone die die must buy and apply a screen protector. If really necessary, why not the manufacturers themselves design a tougher screen or pre-apply a screen protector / protection layer in the factory? So just wondering.

I always see people struggling with air bubbles and dust trying to apply screen protector anyway.
