Screen tearing

This may or may not be a hardware issue so I'm posting here for now..

In short, I upgraded my comp to the following specs and I'm experiencing serious screen tearing when playing videos (youtube, media player classic, vlc player) and games.

Haswell i5 4430
Asus H87m-E
Kingston HyperX 8GB
MSI Radeon 6850 (latest Catalyst) (re-used)
Viewsonic 24" and Samsung 27" (both 1920*1080, 60mhz) (re-used)
Windows 7 Ultimate

I had this problem on my previous setup and enabling Aero fixed it, but that fix no longer works. Any ideas?

I'm not sure whether the Windows update KB2670838 is the cause of your problem or not ....

Could be bad drivers, bad video card, incompatible LCD, or a combination.

Upgrade your drivers to the latest. Don't use beta drivers.

don't think it's the video card because it was working fun on my previous rig. not using beta drivers also..

1. How old is your Video Card?
2. You mentioned it's 're-used', I'm assuming you moved the card from your old system to your new system?
3. You mentioned turning on AERO 'usually fixed it' on the old system?

-> Incidentally, not criticizing, but there are a couple of factors in play.

1. Moving your old card to a new setup may not work, due to the incremental differences in the last couple of years.
2. Moving your old card to the new setup may have resulted with a problem upon transfer. Don't lose sleep over it, it happens all the time.
3. Having your old card work in an old rig, usually doesn't mean it will work in the new rig. The last couple of years have seen incremental changes to hardware, some stuff just doesn't work on new Mobos anymore.
4. Worst case scenario is either a bad mobo, bad ram or it's really just the video card. Best case scenario is just a faulty cable, a need to step down the drivers, or incompatible hardware.
