Hello there !!

Just wanna do an interest check

I was just wondering if anyone's interested in Scuba diving.
Im planning to take the course (which can be completed within a very short period of time)
And just wondering if anyone else would be interested as well.

And for those who already knows how to SD, can wait for the trip to go together.

Both female and males of any age groups are welcomed!!

Kaleebso LOB 9-10 Aug 2014

Hi All Divers,

We are organising LOB @ tioman island on 9-10Aug. it will be a 2D2N dive, open for 21 pax divers.

Jetty: Kampung Penyabong, Padang Endau, Johor

For RM800 or SGD320 you can pay in either currency Delicious food, cosy accomodation on Kaleebso LOB.

Details:
8th Aug
- 2230hrs - Meet up @ Penyabong Jetty and to be on board Kaleebso LOB
- Set up gear, rest and relax... slp...

9th Aug
- Reach Tioman waters
- 0700 - 0730hrs - Wake up, wash up.. breakfast
- 0800-0830hrs - 1st Dive
- 1000-1100hrs -2nd dive
- 1200 hrs - lunch
- 1430-1500hrs - 3rd dive
- 1630-1700hrs - Depart to tioman duty free for alcohol drinks, cigs
- 1730-1800hrs - Dinner
- 1930 - 2000 hrs - Night dive

10th Aug
- 0700 - 0730hrs - Wake up, wash up.. breakfast
- 0800-0830hrs - 1st Dive
- 1000-1100hrs -2nd dive
- 1200hrs - Lunch

Pack up, wash up should be able to reach Penyabong Jetty by 1430 - 1500hrs

for Basic Open Water certification, recommend you do a complete course (classroom theory lessons with instructor, confined pool sessions, open water dives + theory test). this could take 1.5 months depending on your schedule

dont take those crash course bcos I feel the skills & foundation learnt at Open Water is very important. It is also important to have a instructor explain the theory, instead of doing it online.

for the open water dives, it's worth it to pay up to dive in Malaysia (eg Pulau Aur or Dayang) instead of in local SG waters.

You can enquire with Mako Subaquatics or ask in ScubaSG forum.

For Advanced OW, I find doing it in Bali is quite worthwhile ... that will be for later.

if u r learning, dive school will pair u up with other solo trainees.

after certified, solo divers get paired with other solo divers, if not, with the dive guide/instructor.

The dive center or organiser will ensure there is buddy for you.

Over time, you would probably make new diving friends and they could be your buddies

... YOU WILL NEVER DIVE ALONE

it has happened to me before ... even when I already had 200 dives then and was diving in familiar situation .. but I lost sight of main group & finning against current

I found myself breathing harder, short breaths & in higher frequently, exert more effort (eg when finning), body temp goes up, feverish feeling, face gets hot, resulting in mask getting fogged up.

what I did :
1) slow everything down
2) take slow deep breaths. very important to regulate breathing
3) check air & depth, dive comp readings
4) get to shallower depth, slowly, watch ascend rate
5) go towards the reef (dont hang out in the blue)
6) try to recall dive briefing of the site (dive direction, pick up point etc) and the lost procedures
7) there is no real need to rush to find the others if you are lost. more important not to panic & over exert
8) have trust in training and prepare to surface alone (ie safety stop, move away from reef, deploy SMB, surface)

be better prepared prior to diving :
1) listen to dive briefing and safety procedures, ask questions.
In unfamiliar or challenging sites, I take note of direction of current, dive & reef
2) have proper equipment (SMB, compass, lights, mirror)
3) go for refresher dive sessions
4) dive more

Thanks for the tips. I sometimes get panic even when swimming. I too has been swimming regularly at the same pool. But sometimes, not often, will have this kind of feeling. No matter how I tell myself to calm down, I will still panic. Lucky pool is short, I will just swim and swim until I reach the ramp part then I feel relaxed.

If swimmingly pool kena this, can’t imagine what if I kena under the sea...thIs has stopped me from learning scuba diving...

I just heard on radio that 3 days state of emergency declared in Lombok. Affected people being moved to shelter etc

Best check with your local operator on the situation.

I ended up not going to Lombok / Gili T and went to Koh tao instead. Amazing place with plenty of dive site options and many dive shops

u can enquire with local SG dive shops. check out ScubaSG.

all theory and pool sessions will be conducted in SG

for the open water dives, they will offer in Pulau Hantu or top up $ to do open water in Malaysia (eg Tioman, Pulau Aur, Redang etc).

The local dive shop and your instructor will lead these overseas dive trip so safety shld not be any concern.

i think it's worth to top up to dive overseas bcos Pulau Hantu is really "stretch hand no see 5 fingers" type

My friend tried learning in SG and swore off diving after learning in the murky waters

What I suggest is to take a theory, pool course in Singapore and go overseas to with this Referral license and choose a reputable company to complete the cert

I can't say for all companies, but I feel that the dive centres in Phuket (and better still Khao lak) are of quite a professional standard (check reviews). Plus you get to learn in waters that are actually nice to dive in
