SD Card problem

currently using Samsung Micro SD HC type 10 (16GB) for a good 1 year. but recently found out that it is consistently out of memory.

for eg. if i remove a 1gb worth of videos stored in the memory card, the amount of memory free from it is at most 200mb.

anyone met with this problem?

Where are you deleting the files? Are you using a Mac? There's an annoying problem with Mac OS X that the space will not be freed until you empty the Trash.

Delete using Windows, or better just use a file manager app in phone to delete the files.

When you say "out of memory" you mean "out of storage space" right? Because "out of memory" normally means the system RAM is full, a completely different thing.

First, enable viewing hidden and system files on Windows: How to show hidden files in Windows 7

Then right-click on your phone SD card in Windows My Computer and select Properties. See "Used space"

Also then open the SD card drive and press Ctrl-A to select all items in the folder, right-click the selection and click Properties. See "Size" and "Size on disk"

Is there a big difference between all these figures? Share all with us.

BTW it is best to use an "external SD card" reader for the above. Not MTP/PTP protocol (connecting phone directly to computer).

Alternatively, you can get an app like DiskUsage and see what items are using the most space and delete those you don't need from within the app (or by opening the folder from the app in a file manage app like "ES").

ok problem solved. remove the app Dumpster and the storage space is all free up

It's some kind of a "Recycle Bin" which was still holding on to your deleted files. I guess you needed to open the app and "empty the bin" (like emptying Recycle Bin in Windows)

But uninstalling is better if you don't use the app any more. Just be sure the files it was holding on to were cleared and not taking up the space any more.
