well i cant give u any comparison but i will say desktop is definitely faster than external. unless u using a thunderbolt connector or a type C. (but no matter how great is the transfer speed, hdd transder speed will definitely be bottleneck.)

HDD transfer speed will be the bottleneck. And that's exactly why internal will be faster. Because with external drives, Windows will disable some of the caching, which requires a guaranteed power source and no disconnection.

well, the caching can be force-enabled in Windows too.

anyway, the question was not about whether internal is faster than external, but rather how much faster if we were to compare similar sizes (4TB ext vs 4TB int expansion/backup plus).

I think you didn't word your question clearly enough.

Even now I still don't 100% catch what you're asking :s22:

typo - I meant internal desktop 3.5" 4TB vs external 2.5" 4TB Expansion & Backup Plus variants.

beside that u must know that some ext hdd are using 5400rpm and 7200rpm, same goes to internal, but den again most ext hdd are using 5400rpm. so u need to look for it review as well. anyway still internal will be faster when u are using 7200rpm as well.

other factors, number of platters as while...(this i cant give a good explanation, since i forgotten about it as well)
