Seagate barracuda - Not reading

I recently bought one internal HDD from newegg. because it didnt start up with a first set of cables, i use my western digital black cables and connect it. didnt start up too.

is the cable different? am i using the right one? or the HDD got problem?

any form of help will be appreciated. not very good with computer. i just thought HDD is plug and play.

Unless you have hotbays on your case, and you activate the respective sata slot from your bios to be hotswappable, an internal HDD is never plug and play.

Check if you have connected both the power and sata plug, and not just the sata cable alone
Check bios if it has the drive detected
In windows, right click 'This PC'(Formerly 'My Computer') and go into Manage>Storage>Disk management. There, you can format the Seagate(assuming if it's detectable) for use.

If all else fails, you probably got a lemon. In my opinion, unless it's substantially cheaper, it's always better to buy a local set for mechanical HDDs. A single packaged HDD(and a seagate at that, notorious for failing faster than usual) flying all the way from the usa to here is bound to get squashed & tossed around like nobody's business hundreds of times before reaching your doorstep

you are right. its not plug and play. i thought it worked like external drive. thanks!
