Seagate FireCuda - Any good?

I have been using Seagate Barracuda all my life for as long as I know.

Recently thought of getting a 1TB FireCuda to replace (or work alongside) my 1TB Barracuda.

Is it any good? I understand that it is a hybrid of HDD and SSD.

Good as in, I intend to keep my current desktop setup for another 3 years plus until 2020 before wanting to build a new rig again. So I am not sure if it will help with the "speed" since my current HDD is already 4 years old...

but amazon user reviews for SG SSHD (before rebranded as firecuda) say the gimmick doesn't work ... no difference when playing game

look at the C shape grove on the top of the HDD metal shell ... IIRC the firecuda is shallow C shape grove
means it is 3 platter drive ... higher failure rate
deep grove = 2 platter driver = lower failure rate

Hmmmm, looks like I will need to read up more before spending. The reason why I am looking to upgrade my harddisk is because of the poor score...

Limited edition though. Not sure they will release it or not. Don't mind a second ssd to use as scratch disk.

Why get bothered by the score? Anyway, even buying a 120/128GB SSD to work with your existing mechanical hard disk is much better than using a SSHD. The 8gb SSD is too small to make significant improvements. Only in some apps that you use often and cached into the 8GB SSD will see an improvement. Also if you are using a desktop, you are not constraint by hard disk rack space, so best to get a SSD to run alongside your mechanical drive.

Get a 2xxgb SSD for your OS and apps drive and assign current HDD as secondary storage.

Hdd that last long with little failure will be HGST.
OS boot up better use 120GB SSD, they aren't expensive compare to 4 years back.

I should have use my cheapo HDD for torrent instead. Read write on SSD have a limited times.
