HDD with last 20 years of life data had died yesterday.

Stupidly, i didnt turned on the raid 1 function in our NAS (not knowingly). The redundant HDD was empty and absolutely contain no trace of any backup.

Went to Buffalo service centre and they claimed it's HDD mechanical failure. Although it's still under warranty, they will only warrant the HDD (1 for 1 exchange) but not the data. The crashed HDD cannot be detected and has a non stop clicking sound when you tried to boot it on.

Called a few big data recovery service providers, was being quoted minimally $1500 onwards.
Called a few shop in SLS, was being quoted $500 onwards

Before i splurge $$$ on the recovery service, any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Was hoping any hidden dragon here will shed some lights on any cheaper alternative

wit's end post
