hi, my last diy pc died after serving me for 4 years.. thinking of getting a new one

can anyone comment on the following build,

Windows OS
Kingston PC3-1600 DDR 2x4GB - $106
MSI z87 G45 Gaming + i5-4690 - $494
WD 1TB black - $99
corsair 120GB FORCE LS - $134
MSI GTX760 TWIN FROZR 2GB - $388
FSP Aurum Gold 500W - $89
NZXT Phantom - $154

PSU: is 500W enough? Sld i reuse my CoolerMaster GX 650W Bronze? warranty less than a year left.
hdd: is there any noticeable difference between WD black and WD blue? which one is more reliable?

sld i avoid any brands which i listed?

500w is enough for your build.
You don't need a WD Black. Go with blue to lower the cost of your build.
You wouldn't need a Z board if you're going with a non-k chip (k =overclockable). Wait for the pros to advise on motherboard.

Are u gonna SLI/xfire? If not, no need z87 gd45. MSI B85M g43 / B85 G43 gaming + i5-4460 will do.

Just go for WD blue or WD purp which is good for writing of data.

Since u psu left 1 more yr warranty, makes more sense to upgrade it. 500-600w will do. Can try seasonic G550w, superflower leadex gold 650w, HX600w.

Dun go for 760, not worth its price. Can go for powercolour r9 285 at $369 instead, or r9 280 at $339.

AS for case, some here would say that case not good due to personal experience. For me, i used arc midi r2 before it is an excellent case at $139 nia.

Dun get that ssd, not good de. Can consider crucial mx100 128gb, samsung evo 120gb or crucial mx100 256gb, samsung evo 250gb if u gt more budget. Actually, im sure u can afford the 250gb if u reduce ur mobo to B85 series and maybe get powercolour gpu.

PSU best not to reuse ba. And for your mobo, are you overclocking or SLI? if not B85-G43 gaming + 4460 should be enough le ba.

thank you for all the recommendations...

think i will go for WD blue instead, get a new psu and choose one of the ssd recommended here... but i have strong preference for the casing haha

also, while im not going to OC.... i dun wan to rule out the possibility of SLI in the future yet...

May i ask when will that be? If it is 1 or 2 years later, don't bother. By then, newer gpus will be more power efficient and may even perform better than a GTX 760 SLI.

If u wanna SLI, u would need 750w-850w psu, Z series mobo which supports SLI. That will drive costs up.

Also, if u r gonna SLI, do it early. No point doing it 1 yr later whereby a single gpu may be able to closely match the perf of 2-way sli gpus.

IMO, it will be great if he can drop that case and go for something like Fractal Design Arc Midi @ $129 and use that difference, get a Crucial MX100 256GB @ $155.

As Linus always says, just get the best single card GPU possible, and only go SLI when you feel like that is not enough.

To have a proper SLI configuration, all the way from your mobo to your PSU needs to be 'prepared', so if you're not sure if you are gg for SLI or not, you might end up spending an extra couple bucks which could have gone towards an overkill single GPU.

Linus recommendation is always to get 2nd best leh, not the best. Since performance diff between both isnt a lot yet price diff is a lot.

would the difference in clock speed btw 4460 and 4690 be significant if i sometimes need to run some algorithms repeatedly for many iterations?

if you are getting a mATX motherboard, i recommend Fractal Design Core 1500. Quite a nice casing, pretty budget (around $89 at Tradepac). You can google for pictures. Able to accommodate a MSI R7970 Lightning BE (305mm GPU).

Can consider :)
