Looking to configure a new gaming rig at PCT for a friend; no budget in mind but looking for something on the higher-end spectrum

No OC required; here's what I have a mind:

CPU: i7-8700
Mobo: any recommendations here ?
Ram: 1 x 16GB KINGSTON 2400MHZ CL15
GPU: ZOTAC GTX 1080 TI 11GB AMP COOLER EDITIONS
Storage: 1 x 250GB Evo850 SSD + 1 x 1TB WD BLUE HDD
PSU: any recommendations here ?
Casing: Probably a regular ATX, any recommendations?

Display: Looking for a 27inch 1440p 144hz , shortlisted the ASUS PG279Q and ACER XB271HU -- any other models to look out for ?


also something niggling at the back of my mind though is the anticipated GTX 2080 release; rumors expect early 2018 so not sure if it's worth to wait a couple months more

Mobo: Gigabyte Z370 XP SLI. Adequate price, quite well packed features.

PSU: Seasonic Focus Plus 650W or 850W if going SLI.

Chassis: Phanteks P400 or P300 or NZXT S340 Elite (buy some fans add into it. Like Cooler Master Masterfan Pro 120 Air Balance RGB triple pack)

As mentioned, buy dual channel ram. Recommending you to get from Amazon Prime Now for Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB Kit 3000mhz.

I personally is using S340E, good looking casing, fuzz free. But if you intend to OC, P400 would be a better choice for better airflow IMHO. P400 has option to install more fans (6) as compare to S340e (4).

Good chassis. Using the same chassis too. P400 air intake is more narrow than NZXT S340 Elite but you can make negative air pressure build to lower overall temp.

I'm a sucker for boxy chassis. So I really love this chassis haha

So I put together a FHD build but off a 1070Ti for a bit of "future-proofing" and I was quite surprised to see that the local folks Dreamcore and Aftershock were priced very near for similar specs - or am I missing something ?

Firstly, its a joke from some old thread with a particular someone asking the friend to post directly instead. His reason was that you will have to help him if have any issues. And you will need some knowledge otherwise will be hard.

Would ask you get Dreamcore Alpha instead. Without windows, coz you can get that done yourself at much cheaper price while hardware all under warranty by them.

For gaming, don't get NVMe. Spend for larger capacity is much better choice. Coz the extra speed from NVMe does not benefit gaming in a big way. Let's say you playing online versus games, you always gotta wait for those who loads slower. Improvement over SATA is less than 3 sec load time difference in general for both start up and in game. Why settle for lower capacity where game files are so huge nowadays. Larger capacity SSD let you store more games that you play most for faster access.

This is because of
1- Cryptocurrency mining resulting very very high price for mid to high end gpu (gtx 1060 - gtx 1080 ti)
2- Demands for memory products (RAM and SSD) exceeding supplies. Memory manufacturers focused on portable devices memory production (smartphone especially) more than desktop PC memory production, resulting low stock off the shelf worldwide.

When supplies cannot meet demands, price increase and only those willing to pay can get their stocks.

Boutique pc companies are less affected as compared to end user DIY market as they still get their stock from distributors and have their cuts before it reaches the DIY market. Hence, the hike in DIY hardware prices end up matching these boutique builders, making it not worth to DIY now.

Happening since crypto boom at around August or Sept last year if I remember correctly.
