Hi everyone,

I am looking to build a mini itx pc due to space constraint but yet not looking at a laptop as i already have one.

I am currently holding the current build, but wondering what are the components that can be reused:

Processor: Intel i5-6500 3.2 GHZ x4

Mainboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. H170 PRO GAMING (LGA1151)

Graphics Card :8192MB ATI Radeon RX 480 Graphics

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)

Storage Drive: Samsung 840 Pro 256G SSD, Samsung 1TB HD, Samsung 500GB HD

Display: Supersolid p27 pro, Supersolid x270

Components unlikely to reuse:
Power Supply: Seasonic 600W
Casing: Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout Edition

I am looking to build a mini itx based on the casing InWin plus due to the size and looks of the casing. Any feedback on what to add is appreciated. My budget should be looking between 1000 - 1500

Daily use I would say it is for surfing net and viewing anime. Usually I do light programming on 1 screen while the other screen does anything else.

Dont really play much FPS games but that is optional.

If this is the case, if your current setup doesnt slow you down or you comfortable with its performance, i dont see a need to change unless it interferes with your new casing installation. If you really need to spend, probably can invest in gpu.

The main reason i need to change is because of the casing actually, shifted house and the new place requires me to get a much smaller form factor. Thats why im looking at getting a mini itx. So the shift to the casing identified is the critical part for me.

I am using 7600k, very decent speed for me, yours just 1 gen earlier, performance should be slightly slower i believe. Unless you have application which requires more core. I intending to upgrade next year due planning to do some video editing.

ur use case seems to be able to be handled by the igpu just fine, so i would suggest u change ur mobo to an itx one and drop the 480 entirely. everything else seems ok to keep.

Thanks for the advice. But is it common and advisable to keep the processor?

why not? cpus are one of the hardiest parts in a system. im running 7 year old xeons without a hitch. -->
also i would suggest trying to run your system without the 480 first and see if performance is still acceptable before making the jump.

If can fit into the case might as well retain all since you had the items. It is good to have gpu in case you need more demanding applications. Of course, having lesser item will reduce heat and improve ventilation in some casing.

Cpu is very hardy especially intel, can easily survive more than 10yrs if it is not overheating. Mobo is normally to give up way before cpu.

This comes back to what else you will be wanting to do with the PC. If the current CPU you have really serves your purpose then no point in changing.

IF you want to get more performance and are entertaining the idea of changing CPU you may want to consider AMD as their zen 3 CPU is releasing on the 5-Nov. Since your coming form an Intel i5 (4 cores, 8 threads) you can consider the Ryzen 5 5600X (6 cores 12 threads). The other thing to consider is the ITX boards only have 2 RAM slots so you may want to look at upgrading to 16GB RAM ~$100-$120.

Just change the mobo...casing...if can, get a 2TB NVMe SSD to store all ur data....done!!!!! but the hard part might be getting a ITX mobo for ur processor...need to search on9.

I would up the ram to 16GB for programming purposes. Unless you don't do your testing on the same system and does not need to run any form of services/servers/virtualizations.

you can actually get a NUC, if it is within your budget. it is slightly bigger than your palm, u can even attached it to the behind of your monitor.

Else, Inwin Chopin should be small enough for your itx.

Thanks for the recommendation. But based on the link, this setup doesnt have a graphic card is it? haha i dont really feel that comfortable without a graphic card haha

The integrated GPU is more than enough for what you're doing.

For your needs, you can try an asrock desk mini, coupled with a ryzen 3400g CPU (integrated graphics Vega 11 which is the best integrated graphics now) on a B450 or b550 itx motherboard.

Else not sure if cooler master NR200P itx Case works for you. Nice looking, great potential and about 1/3 size of atx case
